Grammys 2024: Internet trolls SZA for 'lip syncing' as most nominated artist of the year performs 'SOS' hits
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: SZA, this year's most nominated artist, delivered performances of 'Snooze' and 'Kill Bill' at the 2024 Grammy Awards. However, viewers at home couldn't help but express their dissatisfaction with the experience due to a poor sound mix.
Taking the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the singer appeared wearing a black hat and a complementing leather trench coat, surrounded by fire dumpsters and vintage garbage containers. As 'Snooze' concluded, she made a striking move by slicing a man hovering behind her, setting the stage for the commencement of 'Kill Bill.'

One person suggested, "SZA needs to stop eating the mic so we can hear her…. It’s giving mumble." "This would’ve been a dope performance if she wasn’t lip synching or does she sound that good live? Wtf SZA," wrote another.

SZA was excited to be bold at the Grammys 2024
On the cover of Rolling Stone's Grammy Preview issue in October, SZA expressed her readiness for this pivotal moment. Contemplating performances at the Grammys, she described them as "things that I would normally say ‘Fuck no’ to because I’m terrified," but she added, "I’m thinking that I’m going to say yes to because it might change my life."
She further reflected, “You perform at the Grammys; you do excellent; you’re bigger,” she continued. “You perform at the Grammys, you win Grammys, you’re extra big… all of those things, what they mean together, is terrifying.”
Did SZA win at the Grammys 2024?
SZA kicked off the evening with the highest number of Grammy nominations. She clinched two prizes on Sunday night—best progressive R&B album and best pop duo/group performance for 'Ghost in the Machine' alongside Bridgers. Additionally, she remains in contention for album of the year, song of the year, and record of the year, among other categories.
Upon winning the Grammy for Best R&B song, SZA humorously shared, "I’m out of breath because I was changing, then I took a shot—and I ran here." Expressing gratitude, she praised Lizzo, who presented her the award, highlighting their friendship since 2013. Fighting back tears, she added, "I'm just very grateful," and playfully mentioned, "I'm not an attractive crier," while waving to a standing ovation from Taylor Swift and Meryl Streep.
What song made SZA famous?
SZA's initial album to make its mark on the Billboard 200 was the EP 'Z' in 2014, which peaked at No. 39. Her first studio album, 'Ctrl', made a strong debut at No. 3 in 2017. Additionally, her first single to chart on the Hot 100, 'Love Galore,' featuring Travis Scott, reached a peak position of No. 32.
