Third-gen fans brace yourselves as the time has come to temporarily say goodbye to your favorites. The latest K-pop idol to enlist in mandatory military service is SF9’s oldest member, Inseong. While second-gen fans were rejoicing as their idols finished their military service and reunited as in the case of 2PM, 2AM and SHINee, relatively newer groups have members who are now nearing the maximum age limit of enlisting i.e., 30 years.

We had the likes of Victon, Monsta X, ONF, EXO, DAY6, Pentagon starting their military era and now more favorites are bound to enlist. And fans are especially downcast for SF9 as they have nine members with a vast age difference spanning from 1993 to 2000 which means it could take almost a decade for all of SF9 to finish their military service and reunite. The youngest member, Chani had hinted at enlisting in mid-2021.

Inseong the first SF9 member to enlist

SF9 held their fourth fan meeting ‘Reply Fantasy’ in August 2021. And during the end, Chani shared that it could be the last time all of the members might get together. However, we did get another album, UNIVERSE single and a three-day concert after that in which Youngbin spoke about enlisting soon. After showering fans with tons of content, we finally have news about SF9’s enlistment. On February 5, their label FNC Entertainment shared that Inseong would train at the recruiting center and then join the military band on March 21.

As we have leader Youngbin who is also Inseong’s age, fans expected them to enlist together. However, FNC explained, “Regarding SF9's Youngbin, the agency will notify you regarding his mandatory enlistment plans as soon as the exact date is confirmed.” But it seems that the second member to enlist will be Youngbin. As for Inseong, he is going to stay busy till he enlists as he has several ongoing gigs like the talent show ‘Double Trouble’, his musical ‘Jack the Ripper’. He is also shooting something with three other SF9 members and is to appear with GOT7’s Bambam on ‘Idol Live School’ on February 9.

'This is so him'

With Inseong being an extrovert, fans are less worried about him not being able to fit in as they commented, “Pls i can alr see inseong in the military band this is so him.“ Another Fantasy joked, “Please let the hot ones stay…hot guys should be exempt from the military…TWO YEARS more like two days please /j.” One posted, “Me trying to stay positive abt this bc inseong would probably act like this with his idol friends who would join the military band also.” Another added, “Inseong wearing this in military band like Jungshin did it.”
