The wait is finally over for ‘Hunger Games’ fans! Lionsgate Motion Picture Group is all set to start work on the prequel of the popular movie franchise, with the trilogy writer, Suzanne Collins releasing her latest novel. The book titled ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ will be released on May 19, 2020. The plot of the novel, which takes place in the 'Hunger Games' universe, will be adapted for the prequel, and here are all the latest updates on the same.

Plot

As is the news so far, the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel movie will focus on Coriolanus Snow at the age of 18, much before he becomes the tyrannical President of Panem. The young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the 10th Hunger Games. But his high hopes are shattered when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from the impoverished District 12.

Cast

Lionsgate has not mentioned anything about the movie’s casting yet. But in a media statement, they spoke of “introducing an entirely new canvas of characters”. Watch this space as we bring you the latest news on the casting for the prequel, who’s in, who’s not, and a lot more!

Director

The ‘Hunger Games’ prequel will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who also helmed the movie trilogy: 'The Hunger Games', 'Catching Fire' and 'Mockingjay'. Oscar-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt ('Little Miss Sunshine') will be adapting the novel for screen and Nina Jacobson, who has produced the earlier three installments of the movie, will return as executive producer.
