Here's how much rent was paid for Rachel and Monica's apartment in 'Friends'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: If you’re a fan of NBC’s hit sitcom ‘Friends', released in 1994, you probably reminisce about the amazing NYC apartment noticeable in the show. It is likely the questions that left fans wondering how the characters landed at the craziest location in Manhattan, not to mention the reasonable size for New York apartments. The cost of the apartments in the show must have been insane, but still, Monica, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Ross, and Phoebe live there; how?
Although the best-ever comedy ‘Friends’ must be leaving Netflix soon, its fans are in no way forgetting about the humorous and talented cast starring Jennifer Aniston as Rachel, Courtney Cox as Monica, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe, Matt LeBlanc as Joey, Matthew Perry as Chandler, and David Schwimmer as Ross. The show’s characters lived in a two-apartment and one-bathroom apartment, residing in the pricey West Village neighborhood.

How much rent did ‘Friends’ pay?
The location of Monica and Rachel’s unbelievable and spacious two-bedroom apartment on ‘Friends’ has been counted as one of the most beautiful locations in television history. Of course, the show was originally filmed on a Warner Bros. studio set, but the exterior shots were actually filmed at a real building. Despite their low-income jobs, the gang held onto the apartment for a decade.
In the 1990s, renting a spacious 2-bedroom apartment would have cost around $2500 per month. But the show explained that Monica inherited the amazing apartment from her grandmother, and she was paying only $200 monthly rent, which was the lowest rent then. For the entire show run, the six main characters eventually end up living there, and to be honest, why wouldn’t they? Anyway, the rent would only cost $100 per person, even if divided between two roommates.
How much does the apartment cost today?
The amount would be mind-boggling if we were to think of how much the six friends would be paying today while sharing Manhattan’s Greenwich Village today. As per CNBC, the average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in the richest area of New York would cost around $4500 per month in 2018. Well, it’s notably extremely higher than what Monica was paying- *sighing in relief that she got it from her grandmother! *
Additionally, the research highlights that if the show had to get a fictional apartment, it would have cost the characters around $2 million as of today. Obviously, not a chance they would have rented up and lived there, considering they had low-income jobs.
Albeit, we all know how the crazy and remarkable apartment was fallen into their luck!
