M Night Shyamalan made his big return to television (sort of) when 'Servant' premiered on Apple TV+ as one of the streaming platform's first original series. Executive produced by Shyamalan and Tony Basgallop — who created and wrote the show – 'Servant premiered in late 2019 with the first season consisting of 10 episodes.

At the time of its release, Shyamalan had stated that he envisioned the series to have 60 half-hour episodes — which would be six seasons overall if we take each season to have 10 episodes.

'Servant' follows the story of Sean and Dorothy Turner (Toby Kebbell and Lauren Ambrose respectively) who raise a doll after losing their own baby named Jericho. Nell Tiger Free stars as Leanne Grayson, a mysterious "nanny" who is hired by the Turners and Rupert Grint acts as Dorothy's brother, Julian Pearce. In the first season, we learn that while Sean and Julian are aware of the truth, Dorothy isn't.

When Leanne comes to stay with the Turners, she is, at first, enamored by Dorothy. But as time goes on, Leanne learns the truth about what happened to Jericho. Over the course of the first season, the doll is mysteriously replaced by an actual baby. Sean and Julian are both skeptical and set out to find the truth about Leanne and where the baby came from.

However, when Sean realizes that there has been no news of missing babies, he begins to grow to accept the baby as Jericho. This is unfortunate because when Leanne learns the truth about the baby's death, she takes the baby and leaves with her "aunt" and "uncle" who are actually cult leaders.

The story is set to continue in Season 2 as Dorothy desperately searches for Leanne. Leanne, on the other hand, wants Sean to tell Dorothy the truth of what happened — but there is something darker inside Leanne that may make things worse. The second season takes a supernatural turn as the story grows more mysterious.

When it comes to shows like this, it helps to know whether the story will continue and if so, for how long. Apple has already renewed 'Servant' for the third season, so we can be assured of more episodes. However, is that the end of the show?

Shyamalan has reportedly reconsidered how long he wants 'Servant' to go on for. While initially, he pictured six seasons, Shyamalan recently told Joblo that he now envisions 'Servant' to end with Season 4 and hopes that he can be a part of the final season. While it is too early to confirm whether 'Servant' may end with Season 4, we are curious to know what Shyamalan and Basgallop have planned for the Turners, Leanne, and Julian as Season 2 makes its way to viewers.

'Servant' Season 2 will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 15, 2021. Watch the trailer below:
