'How I Met Your Father' may not have been a major hit with critics who felt the Hulu spin-off tried too hard to match up to its predecessor. But, it did grow on the audience eventually. Starring Hilary Duff and Kim Cattrall (who appears probably twice in each episode) as Sophie, the series follows her and a bunch of her close friends as they try and figure out their personalities, what they want in life while also navigating relationships in the age of dating apps.

Helmed by showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, then dramedy, despite opening to a mixed reception from fans, is now one of the much-awaited series each week — a factor that was key for renewal. Per THR, “Isaac and Elizabeth’s inspired vision for How I Met Your Father has proven to be true appointment viewing that fans cannot get enough of the week to week,” said Jordan Helman, head of scripted content for Hulu Originals. “The lives of these characters, as portrayed by the immensely talented cast led by Hilary Duff, are just starting to unfold and we’re thrilled to bring more of this group’s journey to our viewers with a supersized second season."

When will 'How I Met Your Father' Season 2 release?

The season opened on January 18, 2022, and was still at the halfway mark when Hulu broke the news of the renewal. With the new season comprising of a whopping 20 episodes and production presumably on the floors, expect it to drop sometime in January 2023.

Who's in the cast of 'HIMYF' Season 2?

Season 1 still has two episodes left and there is absolutely no idea of who leaves the show by the end of the tenth episode. However, since the season wouldn't probably see any goodbyes in the first season, expect the key cast of Duff, Cattrall, Suraj Sharma, Chris Lowell, Tien Tran, Josh Peck, Ashley Reyes, Tom Ainsley, and Francia Raisa to return.

What is the plot of the dramedy?

The 'Who is the father' is the big reveal, and with Season 2 now confirmed, we'll definitely have to wait for a season, or even two to know the answer to that question. With Drew (Josh Peck) now being the latest entrant in the list of guys Sophie was thought to have married, there are twists and turns ahead. The second season may introduce new characters in the mix and add to the mystery.

Showrunner/Director

Original series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas return as directors, with Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger coming in as show-runners.
