'How I Met Your Father' Episode 6 Review: Jesse complicates matters between Sophie and Drew
For the first time in 'How I Met Your Father', things take a serious turn. The characters essentially reveal their feelings to their respective partners and that makes for a better watch. If there were any doubts that Jesse (Chris Lowell) loved Sophie (Hilary Duff), then Episode 6 answers that question with a subtle yes. In love are also Charlie (Tom Ainsley) and Valentina (Francia Raisa) who figure out after the former burns his passport that has quite the story. Sophie and Drew (Josh Peck) bond, but with Jesse potentially starting off a love triangle, the question is how far will either of the romances go?
The episode sees Sid (Suraj Sharma) and Hannah (Ashely Reyes) plan for a weekend getaway and while Jesse enthusiastically pitches in that he'd love to go, the duo invites Sophie and Drew instead as they're the new couple in town. The rest of the gang decide to celebrate Charlie's new apartment and job salary only for it to go sour. Jesse meets Mia, who actually hooks up with his sister Ellen (Tien Tran) just the day before they meet and that complicates things for the already disgruntled Jesse.

'How I Met Your Father' Episode 4 Review: Light watch where Drew and Sophie bond
Things aren't rosy between Sophie and Drew when his ex is brought up. Duff as a stalker is funny, but it also speaks about the character's struggles to come to terms with the fact considering she wasn't in a serious relationship. What makes it even heartening is when they sort those differences out, especially after she DMs Stacey (the ex) by mistake. It's confessions all over even when Jesse indirectly reveals that he wanted to be with "her" referring to Sophie.
With four episodes remaining, it is unlikely we may get an answer about who the father is, considering there may be a Season 2 in the offing, but 'Stacey' sets up the future of the series. Jesse entering the picture surely complicates things for Sophie, and if at all the actual Stacey decides to appear, that would just make the storyline even better.
'HIMYF' is still entertaining all things considered, but maybe they could work on cutting down the forced laughter. It's not exactly funny, but the episode can benefit from the rather heartfelt romance angle as a whole than trying to make quips about things that don't necessarily evoke laughter.
For now, the romance dramedy is still worth watching.
'How I Met Your Father' drops Tuesdays on Hulu with a new episode.
