LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 will stream on HBO from June 16, 2024. As the anticipation for the second season builds, a major point of discussion for those who have read George R.R. Martin's books or have followed the history of the Westeros world is whether season 2 will have the Dance of the Dragons.

'House of the Dragons' is centered around the Targaryen house, famous for its dragons. The series is expected to feature 17 dragons who unleash deadly fire annihilating their opponents.

'House of the Dragon' is about a conflict in the Targaryen house after the death of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) as his son with Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) is crowned the King.

Aegon's step-sister Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy), who Viserys had named his heir to the throne now prepares for battle to take the throne in Season 2.

What is the Dance of the Dragons?

Dance of the Dragons is a name given to the Targaryen civil war for the Iron Throne. As per George R.R. Martin's book, Dance of the Dragons took place for two years after the death of King Viserys.

The war is fought with Team Green on one side. Team Green, in essence, is led by Alicent Hightower and is called Team Green because of the significance of the color green to House Hightower. On the other side is Team Black, which is led by Rhaenyra Targaryen, who has her husband Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) by her side.

The war isn't just a physical battle between the soldiers but involves politics and deception. The war also involves diplomacy too as both teams try to earn the allegiances of other Houses as they go to battle.

Will we see Dance of the Dragons in 'House of the Dragon' Season 2?

Since Viserys is already dead in the first season, and conflict has begun between Alicent and Rhaenyra, we are expected to see a large portion of the Dance of the Dragons take place in 'House of the Dragon' Season 2.

It remains to be seen though, whether the entire two-year war will be covered in this season or will some portions of the war be left to take place later.

The trailer of 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 shows some epic battle scenes, so viewers can expect high-octane action in Season 2.

Who wins the Dance of the Dragons?

In George R.R. Martin's novel series 'A Song of Ice and Fire',  the Dance of the Dragons claims Rhaenyra's life and leaves Alicent exhausted. The ultimate successor to the throne is Aegon III Targaryen, who is Rhaenyra's son.

We are unlikely to see the story progress enough for this event to occur in 'House of the Dragon' Season 2. It also remains to be seen whether the series' events are taken directly from the book or there are some changes as they make it for the screen.
