LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Iron Throne saga is still left to explore and there are several chapters regarding the politics in Westeros to be explored. The 'Game of Thrones' prequel 'House of the Dragon' was released in August 2022, much to the praise from critics and audiences alike. A prequel story to the parent series 'House of the Dragon' surprised the audience with the power-packed storylines, performances and most importantly dragons. Season 2 of HBO's 'House of the Dragon' has already been greenlit and now fans got a little update on the behind-the-scenes of the upcoming season.

'House of the Dragon' is created by Ryan J Condal and George RR Martin and has an incredible cast that includes Emma D'Arcy as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Queen Alicent Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Graham McTavish as Ser Harrold Westerling, Bethany Antonia as Lady Baela Targaryen, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria and Matthew Needham as Larys Strong.

A glimpse of 'House of the Dragon' Season 2

As Season 2 of 'House of the Dragon' is currently under production, fans got a quick update on the upcoming season with a clear image of the back of the infamous Iron Throne. The House of the Dragon Twitter page has tweeted, "It's time to return to King's Landing. Season 2 of #HouseoftheDragon is now in production". And it is to be noted that the upcoming season of 'House of the Dragon' will only have a total of eight episodes instead of 10, unlike Season 1. This is because the series has potential for Seasons 3 and 4. The finale of Season 1 of the Golden Globe-winning series ended with Lucerys Velaryon facing a gruesome death by Aemond's dragon Vhagar. And in the final moments of the finale, we saw an infuriated Rhaenyra grieving the death of her son.

The storyline of 'Dance of the Dragon' in Season 2

The upcoming season of 'House of the Dragon' has already got the fans' expectations mainly due to the potential 'Dance of the Dragons' storyline. Rhaenyra was previously against the war in Season 1. However, the recent chaotic events have changed with Rhaenyra currently enraged by the death of her son. This will make Rhaenyra go up against Aemond and it would spark bloodshed across Westeros. As far as the plotline goes, a face-off is imminent between Rhaenyra and Aemond in Season 2.

And as seen in 'Game of Thrones', the Dance of the Dragons is the brutal event that led to the deaths of all the dragons in Westeros, potentially leading to the downfall of the Targaryens. Though it is still unclear as to how much of the Dance of the Dragons would take place in the upcoming season, it is still great to see the Iron Throne as a tease for the upcoming season, hinting at the one true ruler of Westeros.

When will 'House of the Dragons' Season 2 be released?

Though there has been no official announcement regarding the release date of the upcoming season of 'House of the Dragon', it has been confirmed that the series will not release anytime soon this year. Viewers can expect Season 2 sometime in 2024, possibly during the summer, much like Season 1. Season 2 is also expected to drop as a weekly episodic event as Season 1 of the series.

Season 1 of 'House of the Dragon' is available for streaming exclusively on HBO Max.
