The ‘Game of Thrones’ universe would feel entirely inappropriate if our favorite characters didn’t die after doing something that made fans really happy. Who can forget the tragic death of Ned Stark in Season 1? It really made everyone feel so gutted about the character and House Stark as well. It seems ‘House of the Dragon’ is following the footsteps of its mother series and killing off characters that were on course to become our favorites.

Episode 6 of the HBO prequel series saw Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) giving birth to her third child, Joffrey, and letting everyone know how strong she is. The Queen wanted to see the baby as soon as Rhaenyra gave birth and the Princess decided to take the child herself. Even in pain, she was as riveting as anyone could be. As the episode progresses, we get to know that Ser Laenor is not the father of these three children and Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke) is very keen to find out who the real father is. On the other hand, Prince Daemon and his new wife Laena are now living in Pentos with their two children. Meanwhile, Laena is pregnant with the third.

Most of the episode was about Princess Rhaenyra’s difficult time at Westeros and the struggle she was going through while taking care of her family. Apart from that, we saw some really crucial characters dying in this episode. So, let’s take a look at who died in tonight’s dramatic episode.

Lady Laena Velaryon

Laena was first introduced in the initial episodes of the series as a child who was being offered to Viserys to wed, but the King wisely decided to not marry her because she was just a child. Meanwhile, in Episode 5 of the HBO series, we saw a beautiful young Laena making her way to Westeros as her brother Ser Laenor Velaryon was getting married to Princess Rhaenyra. At the time, Prince Daemon looked very interested in getting to know more about her and was flirting with her. Ten years later, we see that Daemon and Laena are married and they have two children together, with a third on the way. They are now living in Pentos and the Lord of Pentos wants them to stay there forever. Laena doesn’t want to live in Pentos because she wants her baby to be delivered to her kingdom. But the time has come for Laena to give birth. After a lot of trying, the Maester tells Prince Daemon that the baby is not coming and they can cut the womb to let the baby out, but the mother won’t survive it.

Daemon is broken but gets a shock of a lifetime when he finds out that Laena is walking out of the castle on her own. While walking in the darkness, she reaches to her dragon, the might Vhagar, and says “Dracarys”. At first, Vhagar refuses to do anything because the dragon has a bond with her and he can’t just light her on fire. But soon the animal realizes that the dragon rider is in pain and this is the only solution. As soon as Daemon comes out of the castle to find her, Vhagar lights up the night with his fire and kills Lady Laena.

Ser Harwin Strong and Lyonel Strong

After her meeting with Queen Alicent and King Viserys, Princess Rhaenyra reaches her chambers and meets Ser Harwin Strong. He is the eldest son of Lord Lyonel Strong and is the heir to the tile of Lord of Harrenhal. He is known for his strength and goes by the name of ‘Breakbones’. In one of the scenes, when Ser Criston Cole was favoring Queen’s children during sword fighting practice, Harwin interfered and said that Cole is not training fighters, he is training monsters. He saves Jacaerys from Aegon, who was fighting without abiding by the rules, and while he was going away, Criston said that people show this much care only to their cousin, brother, or son. Harwin gets angry and punches the s**t out of Cole.

There are rumors that Ser Harwin is the father of Rhanenyra’s children. After hitting Criston, Harwin has been taken out from the city’s watch and his father has proposed that he should resign as the Hand of the King, but the King refuses.

Alicent goes to meet Larys Strong and hatches a plan. In the end, we saw Lord Lyonel and Harwin making their way to Harrenhal. However, in the end, it is revealed that Lyonel and Harwin have died in a fire at Harrenhal. The entire plan was made by Larys Strong, who is also a member of House Strong, and used some of the prisoners that were kept behind bars.

This means Viserys will now need a new Hand of the King and it seems Ser Otto Hightower might be making a return to King’s Landing soon.

With only four episodes remaining, we can expect more deaths in the most gruesome fashion.
