At some point in our lives, we've all held a gaming console in our hands and indulged in the endless pleasures of 'Super Mario Bros' and 'Pac Man' on our television screens. The gaming world has come a long way since then, powered by new technology and scientific innovations. Now, a new docu-series coming to Netflix entitled 'High Score' is chronicling the evolution of gaming and the revolution that it has sparked with its widespread popularity. Here is all you need to know about it:

Release date

The six-part documentary series, 'High Score', will be binge-ready for you to stream on Netflix, on Wednesday, August 19.

Plot

As the gaming industry has advanced with time and technology, many of the classic games that we once found ourselves playing for hours together have taken the back seat. Gaming giants have definitely played upon our nostalgia by remaking and remastering some of these games to introduce the new generations of gamers to the legends that once reigned in the industry. Others have just been a figment etched deep in our memories, only to fondly reminisce over from time to time. 'High Score' is a fantastic attempt at documenting the origins and development of video games.

The documentary series highlights the golden age of the gaming industry when iconic games like Pac-Man and Doom were brought to life. Some ingenious innovators, computer pioneers, and visionary artists from across the globe take full credit for spawning the legendary worlds of Space Invaders, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, Madden NFL, and more. With no solid blueprint or roadmap, players and creators navigated their way through the industry by pushing the limits of monetary earnings, budding rivalries, and a growing fanbase. 'High Score' is essentially the story behind the pixels and how creativity and inventiveness meshed together, built a multi-billion-dollar industry, almost by accident.
