Henry Cavill is quitting Netflix's 'The Witcher'. The 'Man of Steel' star has been making headlines after he did a cameo as Superman in DCEU's 'Black Adam'. Shortly after he confirmed his return as DCEU's 'Superman' in a social media post and was seen talking about it on a podcast and at Netflix's 'Enola Holmes 2' world premiere. Although the actor didn't mention earlier his plans of quitting the series earlier, he has once again via an Instagram post revealed that he is bidding adieu to one of the most anticipated fantasy series on Netflix and is being replaced by none other than Miley Cyrus's ex-husband and Chris Hemsworth's brother Liam Hemsworth.

However, fans were not delighted to hear this news. While some fans felt that this was the biggest casting downgrade, others thought that Cavill should have just put a halt on the shooting days of 'The Witcher' if he is busy doing 'Superman'. 'The Witcher' is a fantasy drama streaming series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix. It is based on the book series of the same name by writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Set on a fictional, medieval-inspired landmass known as the Continent, 'The Witcher' explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri.

'The Witcher' Season 2 Review: Netflix fantasy series now bigger, better in every sense

Cavill broke in an Instagram post with the caption that read, "Some news to share from The Continent…My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find."

After this, Hemsworth shared a message on Instagram, expressing his gratitude and excitement to star in the series. It read, "As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure."

"Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world. @henrycavill @witchernetflix," Hemsworth added.

However, fans were not pleased when the news of Cavill leaving the show and being replaced by Hemsworth surfaced online, as one fan wrote, "Wow. No disrespect to Liam.. But Henry was the perfect Geralt.. I mean 'The Witcher' distinguishes and set Henry Cavill apart from others. I am surprised he would let go 'The Witcher' and take on the role of Superman again which wasn't that great. Oh well. All good things ends."

Another fan shared, "No one will accept this. They might as well cancel the series," while one tweeted, "We got Superman back but what did it cost?"

A fan said, "No hate towards Liam Hemsworth but they should just end it after season 3. I just don't see people adjusting to this." One fan wrote, "This has got to be one of the biggest casting downgrades in recent memory."

Lastly, a fan stated, "Honestly they could just do a time jump and have Mads Mikkelson play older Geralt."
