Is Ashtray really dead? 'Euphoria' star Javon Walton 'hopes he's alive'
The final episode of 'Euphoria' Season 2 evoked varied responses as usual. While fans were satisfied with Cassie getting beat up by Maddy, Rue's momentary reconnection with Jules, and Cal getting arrested, most of them, if not all, were completely distraught with the way things ended at Fezco's house.
For the uninitiated, the Season 2 finale of 'Euphoria' saw an intense shootout take place at Fezco's house. The episode begins with Ashtray stabbing Custer in the neck after the latter let his cover slip, revealing to Ashtray and Fez that he's in cahoots with the police. Fez, aware of the incoming raid, tries to take the fall for the murder, but a protective Ashtray barricades himself in the bathroom with an arsenal of weapons. Ashtray fires a shot from within, kickstarting a shootout, during which Fez gets hurt and he gets gunned down for killing a SWAT team member.

Speaking to Esquire after the episode aired, Javon Walton revealed his hopes pertaining to the character, and what the future would look like if he made it out alive. Not entirely convinced that Ashtray's dead, Walton told Esquire that he "just hopes he's alive," adding that he's "sure he didn't just get shot one time by taking cover in the bathtub and getting shot through the wall." Having clearly put a lot of thought into the character, Walton feels that "Ash is going to find a way back" to Fez once he's out of jail, imagining that the drug-dealing kid would've played dead to get out of trouble. Walton concluded by saying, "That's what I would want to happen, is for Ash and Fez to reunite," after disclosing that Fez was the one who ends up getting shot in the initial drafts of the finale of 'Euphoria' Season 2.
The 15-year-old was 11 when he debuted as Fez's adoptive brother in the HBO drama. An accoladed boxer who is currently training for the 2024 Summer Olympics, Javon Walton aspires to be an accomplished actor, and thinks he "could be the next Robin."
'Euphoria' is available for streaming on HBO Max.
