Netflix's 'Hache' Season 2: Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about Spanish crime drama

Spoilers for 'Hache' Season 1 and Season 2

'Hache', a Spanish crime drama, created by Verónica Fernández takes a deep dive into Barcelona in the '60s with drug trafficking in the center of its storyline. The series is also inspired by true events. The first season premiered in November 2019 with eight one-hour episodes, and the second season is set to release next month after being renewed on November 21, 2019. Here is all you need to know about the upcoming new season.

Release date

'Hache' Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on February 5, 2021.

Plot

Season 1 of 'Hache' saw Hache exact revenge and Malpica's death. Diezminutos also revealed that season 2 seeing Hache as back at the head of the criminal shindig. Most importantly though, and shocking to many fans is the fact that Javier Rey's resurrection is being teased. Besides this, there is not much else revealed for Season 2. Stay tuned for updates.

The official synopsis of the series as per Netflix reads, "Created by Verónica Fernández and directed by Jorge Torregrossa (La vida inesperada, Cocaine Coast, Velvet Collection), 'Hache is inspired by true events'. It tells the story of Helena (Adriana Ugarte), a prostitute who starts as a simple pawn in the hands of Malpica (Javier Rey), the head of a gangster band that operates in Barcelona in the 1960s. But a steep and hazardous learning curve takes Helena from the lowest rung of the organization to the top, seizing control of the heroin operation. Among the group of men led by Malpica, two stand out: the unstoppable Arístides and lawyer Julio Senovilla, played by Marc Martínez (To Die (Or Not), El Mundo de Chema) and Pep Ambròs (The Olive Tree, Félix, Matadero) respectively. On the right side of the law is the newly established Narcotics Brigade, led by inspector Alejandro Vinuesa (Eduardo Noriega), his partner Eladio Pérez (Josep Julien, A tortas con la vida), and the Commissioner Clemente Larrubia, (Álex Casanovas, Manila). Marina Salas (Three Steps Above Heaven, The Boat, I Want You) features in the role of Silvia Velasco, the Commissioner’s secretary. At the heart of the 'Hache' story is The Albatross Club, a venue with a soul of its own, a night club where foreign visitors, young gentlemen from the city, disheveled girls, and vain denizens lose themselves in the music of the time. This club is the operations center for Malpica’s gang. Celeste, played by Ingrid Rubio, (o Hell with the Ugly, Bajo sospecha, Velvet) who’s in charge of the club. The club’s main musical attraction is Julia Bloomsbury, played by the British actress Tonia Richardson, a singer who is always accompanied by the piano of Ramiro Larrocha (Toni Zenet)."

Ugarte is known for her roles as Julieta Joven in 'Julieta' (2016), Sira Quiroga in 'The Time in Between' (2013-2014), Vera Roy in 'Mirage' (2018), and Sara in 'Mala Espina' (2001). Her other works include 'Lo contrario al amor' (2011), 'The Solar System' (2017), 'The Other Woman' (2018), 'Mirage' (2018) and 'Parot' (2021). The actress has won two Awards of the Spanish Actors Union - one in 2010 for 'La señora' and the other in 2014 for 'El tiempo entre costuras', both for the category Television: Lead Performance, Female (Protagonista TV - Categoría Femenina). She also won a Roel at the Medina Film Festival for Best Actress for 'Mala espina' (2001).

Rey is known for his roles as Sito Miñanco in 'Cocaine Coast' (2018), Javier in 'Sin Fin' (2018), David-Trigo in 'Not the End' (2014) and David Valentin in 'Unknown Origins' (2020). His other recent works include 'Get Her...If You Can' (2019), 'Twin Murders: The Silence of the White City' (2019), 'Velvet Colección' (2017-2019), 'Liar' (2020), 'Unknown Origins' (2020) and 'El verano que vivimos' (2020). He has a release titled 'La casa del caracol' (2021) in post-production and is filimg a release title 'La cima' (2021). The actor won a Feroz Award in 2019 for Best Lead Actor in a Series for 'Fariña' and also won a Fotogramas de Plata that same year for Best TV Actor for the same production. 

The rest of the cast includes Eduardo Noriega as Vinuesa, Maria Salas as Velasco, Pep Ambros as Senovilla, Marc Martínez as Arístides, Ingrid Rubio as Celeste, Josep Julien as Eladio Pérez, Marina Salas as Silvia Velasco, Àlex Casanovas as Clemente Larrubia, Andrew Tarbet as Walter Kopinski, and many more. 

Creators

The series is directed by Jorge Torregrossa and Fernando Trullols. Verónica Fernández, Carlos López, Santos Mercero and Almudena Ocaña have writing credits. Tomás Cimadevilla, Verónica Fernández and Jorge Iglesias serve as executive producers.
