'Was Gwen Stefani the only voter?' Trolls recall the time Blake Shelton was voted Sexiest Man Alive!
Blake Shelton was trolled over once being voted People's Sexiest Man Alive after Chris Evans was bestowed with the honor on Monday, November 7.
The 6’5″ Oklahoma-born Shelton has a fan base of millions, but he isn't exactly the modern-day Adonis. The acclaimed country singer was himself confused after being named People's Sexiest Man Alive in 2017, and the honor resurfaced on social media after Hollywood hunk Evans was crowned the sexiest man for 2022 on Monday. The 'Avengers' star, 41, accepted the award remotely from the set of his upcoming film after being introduced by former title holder Dwayne Johnson, 50.

Fans offered their various takes on the sexiest men picked over the years, but many recalled their shock when Shelton accepted the distinction in 2017. "I’m still traumatized from that one year when PEOPLE tried to claim that Blake Shelton was the Sexiest Man Alive," one tweeted. "Gwen Stefani must’ve been the sole voter," another quipped. "I’ll still never understand this one," someone else added. "Naming Blake Shelton Sexiest Man Alive was very unserious," a comment read. "Even his photo is saying 'are you sure about this??'" another joked.

The singer couldn't believe it himself when he first heard the news, telling People at the time, "... y’all must be running out of people. Like, Wow, we’re down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical.” Nonetheless, he credited his would-be-wife Gwen Stefani for convincing him to embrace the crown. “She goes, ‘Listen to me, you’re going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don’t take this gift and just live in the moment,” he said.
That said, the 'God's Country' crooner has had a good sense of humor about the unexpected tag, joking in 2020 that People "screwed up" by picking him. "I remember I called my manager. 'They want to put you as the Sexiest Man Alive,' And I'm like, 'Wh— what?!' I remember when that magazine came out, you know, of course, there's gonna be blowback and hate. But I remember, I was like, 'Man, they're right.' Like, I don't disagree with any of this that I'm hearin'," he told CBS This Morning at the time. "I remember some of the tweets — you know, before I canceled social media — it was like, 'Wait a minute, Blake Shelton's the Sexiest Man Alive? Did every other man on the planet die or something?' … Come on, let's face it — they screwed up."
