LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: For many people NBC's hit singing competition show 'The Voice' has become synonymous with Blake Shelton. Over the course of 22 seasons, and as the last standing OG coach of the show, Blake managed to capture many hearts with his witty remarks and hilarious shenanigans on the show.

So, when Blake announced on Tuesday, October 12, 2022, that he was going to "step away from 'The Voice' after next season, fans were left feeling shocked and emotional. In an Instagram post, Blake shared, "I've been wrestling with this for a while and I've decided that it's time for me to step away from The Voice after season 23. This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me." "It's been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at 'The Voice' from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week,' the 46-year-old country icon added.

Why is Blake Shelton leaving 'The Voice'?

As soon as the internet caught the whiff of Blake's imminent exit from 'The Voice', fans couldn't help but wonder about the reason behind it. Though Blake hasn't explicitly cited any specific reason or issue as the cause of his exit, this wouldn't be the first time that Blake hinted at his exit from the show. In the past, the OG coach occassionally kept dropping hints about retirring from the show. After a successful stint of 23 seasons on 'The Voice', Blake must be ready to move onto other new and exciting ventures that will continue to challenge him.

Blake's exit announcement left many fans questioning the future of the singing competition show without him. Another fan shared, "I am crying so hard Blake. You made the show so special and made me smile and laugh through the years through good and bad times. "@blakeshelton #TheVoice Dear Blake, please don’t ever leave THE VOICE. You are the magic that pulls everything together. I have watched this every season!" echoed a fan. I’m looking forward to whatever he decides to do on his next journey & will keep being his fan," expressed a fan.

Blake's shocking announcement came in the heels of the network releasing the news of 'The Voice' returning for Season 23. Aside from season 23 being the last season featuring the country icon, it will also feature the return of fan-favorite coach Kelly Clarkson, alongside new coaches Chance the Rapper, and Niall Horan.

'The Voice' Season 22 airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.
