'Green Arrow and the Canaries' star Katherine McNamara seems doubtful of The CW show's future due to pandemic
With Stephen Amell's 'Arrow', the show that started of The CW's Arrowverse, finally ending in January, fans have been eagerly waiting for his legacy to be continued through Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara), the daughter of Oliver Queena and the Green Arrow of 2040.
McNamara is all set to star in a spinoff series titled 'Green Arrow and the Canaries', which had a successful backdoor pilot as part of the final season of 'Arrow', but now the show's future is a bit uncertain.
While fans clearly love Mia and the new show's pilot, The CW is yet to make an announcement on whether they will be greenlighting the spinoff or not. Now in an interview with Comic Book, McNamara has revealed that she herself has no idea when or even if that decision will be made.
"I have no idea," McNamara said. "I just asked the other day and because of the state of the world and everything that's going on, everything has kind of changed."
"Upfronts have been canceled, nobody knows what's going on. We weren't supposed to know until May anyway and now at this point, who knows when decisions are going to be made," she shared.
The CW generally makes these announcements in May but with the coronavirus pandemic still gripping the nation, there's no telling if that is happening this year. With production delayed on pretty much all the shows at the network, we don't even know if it would be commercially viable for The CW to pick up a new series.
Meanwhile, McNamara would love to return to the role. She spoke about how exciting the experience has been and that she definitely wants to wear the Green Arrow's iconic hood again.
"You know, obviously I had such a lovely time playing Mia," she said. "I'd love to be back, especially now that there are so many exciting things for her, taking on the mantle of Green Arrow and moving forward. They made me a really badass suit that I love so I'd love to wear it again, but we'll see. Time will tell."
