The K-pop industry is a very confusing place for friendships with the opposite sex and dating. Fans go on to ‘ship’ idols together but drop them when a K-pop idol actually turns out to be dating someone as they see it as a betrayal. Some even start shipping idols when they mention that they are friends as seen in the case of ex-GFriend member Sowon and Seventeen’s Jeonghan.

There is a lot of hypocrisy in K-pop since obsessive fans think they have a say in the idol’s private life since they invest so much money in them. If an idol’s friend or partner does not fit their image, fans create an uproar and cyberbully them as seen when Apink’s Naeun had to drop out of the variety show ‘We Got Married’ where she was in a fake relationship with SHINee’s Taemin. Well, to be extra careful, idols do not even disclose friends of the opposite sex anymore.

Sowon shuts down dating rumor with Jeonghan

But it looks like Sowon aka Kim Sojung has no qualms calling out fans for giving their opinion on her personal life. The former GFriend leader came on VLive on March 4 to chat with fans where she finally addressed the dating rumor with Seventeen’s Jeonghan. Well, the idol actress saw a lot of fans commenting ‘shinggi banggi’, a viral slang word that the Seventeen star had invented. Once she realized that Jeonghan made it, Sowon thought that fans were teasing her with him and said, “Ah, Jeonghan made it? Jeonghan is my friend, everyone, please stop it. He’s one of my close friends.”

‘Move on’

She explained that only VIXX’s Hyuk and Seventeen's Jeonghan were her guy friends but they rarely meet. Sowon also added that a lot of fans were messaging her about shipping her and Jeonghan which she was uncomfortable with and so asked them to stop. One angry user tweeted, “Leave her alone i can't believe some of u even send a dm about this to the point she need to clarify this in her live.” One fan joked, “Sowon is single guys. She doesn't need a boyfriend when she have Gfriend.”

Another posted, “SOWON REALLY ENDED ALL THE SHIPS HAHAHAHAHHAHA.” One fan made a reaction meme, “Jeongwon shippers rn when sowon said they’re just friends:.” Another Buddy shared, “Sowon literally addressed those dating rumors and telling people to stop by herself lmao who's doing like her.” Another added, “Queen thingz.” One commented, “PEOPLE ARE STILL IN THAT SOWON AND JEONGHAN STUFF move on it's been like three or four years....”
