BARCELONA, SPAIN: Gerard Pique recently came under fire after he took a swipe at ex-partner Shakira and her Latin American fanbase. The football star appeared on the 'Kings League Infojobs' Twitch stream and made the fiery comments while opening up about the consistent criticism and alleged trolling he received from the Colombian singer’s fanbase in the wake of their split.

The FC Barcelona star commented on Shakira’s nationality before calling out her fans and saying they are like “robots” and “they have no life.” Pique’s remarks come after Shakira moved to Miami with their sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8. The now-former couple decided to part ways in June 2022 after nearly 12 years of being in a relationship. The split followed rumors about Pique cheating on Shakira with his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti.

“I settled in Barcelona to give my children a stability, the same we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea. Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness,” Shakira wrote on Instagram as she moved to Miami with her children. “Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside me so many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love. Thank you to everyone who has been there to cheer me up, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow,” the 'Waka Waka' singer added, seemingly alluding to the difficult time during her split with Pique.

What did Gerard Pique say?

In a recent appearance on the 'Kings League Infojobs' Twitch stream, Gerard Pique slammed Shakira’s Latin American fanbase. “The issues that I have been through since last year, with my ex-partner being Latin American… I mean, you don't know what I've come to receive on social media from people who are her fans, but damn, I don't care about any of it, really,” he said, addressing the online criticism he received following his split from the singer.

“It’s zero, zero because I don't know them at all. These are people who don’t care about you, and they’re there but they have no life,” Pique continued. “And what importance do they have? That’s zero. You will never meet them in your life, they are like robots. I treat it like it is, you know,” he concluded.

In the wake of the footballer’s tirade, Shakira seemingly responded to her ex-partner’s remarks on Twitter by writing “Orgullosa de ser Latinoamericana,” which translates to, “Proud to be Latin American.”

‘Nastiest man alive’

Pique received immediate backlash on social media over his comments on Shakira and her Latin American fanbase. “Still baffled at Pique throwing that xenophobic latin american comment so casually he truly is the nastiest man alive,” one user wrote. “So Pique is a cheater anddd a racist,” another commented.

“Cheaters deserve no mercy in my opinion. secretive, deceitful clowns in the flesh who don’t deserve lasting love and never will. looking at xenophobic piqué rn fr, like you cheated SO proudly on the mother of your children so you better take the heat and shut up and like it!!!” one user explained.

“As if we didn’t need another reason to establish pique is a POS…he’s come out as xenophobic now. #piquexenophobic #piquexenofobia #pique #xenophobia #xenofobia,” another added. One user questioned, “Does he expect us to sympathize with a cheater?” while another dubbed him, “Cheater AND racist.”
