BARCELONA, SPAIN: After reports of his adultery, Shakira is no longer keeping quiet about her breakup with longtime boyfriend Gerard Pique. The singer of 'Hips Don't Lie' spoke about the abrupt separation in a new cover interview for Elle's September 2022 issue.
After 11 years of dating, the former soccer player, 35, and the Colombian singer, 46, called it quits in May. They had two children together, Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8. The singer opened up about the seperation in the brutally honest interview.

As 'self-sufficient' as Shakira
In an apparent jab at Clara, 23, with whom her ex recently went official on Instagram, Shakira said on the Mexican channel Canal Estrellas: "There is a place in hell reserved for women who don't support other women." She acknowledged that she had "believed" the "story" that a "woman required a male to be complete." Nonetheless, she claims that having understood this, she can now be "self-sufficient."

Shakira found love when she lost faith

Her fame peaked in 2010 when she composed and sang the World Cup in South Africa's official theme song, where she also met and fell in love with Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique.
Pique and Shakira eventually had a family and settled down together. She admitted to having temporarily lost her faith, saying, “I had even lost my faith for a while...I started to think that there was no God. And suddenly I met Gerard, and the sun came out.”
'My darkest hour'
Shakira’s outlook towards the heartbreak has evolved. In an exclusive chat with Elle from her home in Barcelona, she refers to the current period as "her darkest hour" despite the fact that she is getting ready to release her first album in five years. After she announced her separation from Pique in June, the ex-couple is yet to decide who will have custody of their two children, Milan and Sasha, amid a flurry of media stories.
