The 95th Academy awards nomination list for Best Director has surprised everyone around the globe

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: James Cameron has surprised the world with 'Avatar: The Way of Water,' however, the 95th Academy awards nomination list for Best Director has surprised everyone around the globe. Furthermore, after last year’s record-breaking Best Director win for Jane Campion - who became only the third woman to ever win the Oscar for Best Director, joining Chloe Zhao 'Nomadland' in 2021, and Kathryn Bigelow 'The Hurt Locker' in 2009. Regardless, the 2023 Oscar nominations failed to nominate any women in the Best Director category.

Cameron who is considered one of the industry's most innovative filmmakers, regularly pushing the boundaries of cinematic capability with his use of novel technologies. 'Everything Everywhere All at Once,' a twisty sci-fi adventure, led the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards on Tuesday morning, picking up 11 nods. 'Triangle of Sadness,' director captured nominations for his screenplay and for the direction of Ruben Ostlund, the Swedish filmmaker who dreamed up the satire. He will compete for the director prize against Spielberg, Todd Field 'Tar', Martin McDonagh 'The Banshees of Inisherin,' and the directing duo of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert 'Everything Everywhere All at Once.' As witnessed it’s a category dominated entirely by men.



 

However, after this list went online, fans were extremely disappointed with the list and appalled how no women and Cameron has been snubbed out of the list. A fan said, "I can't believe the Oscars decided not to nominate any women directors, this so isn't predictable." A fan shared, "CHARLOTTE WELLS DESERVED A SPOT," while another added, "Martin McDonagh I guess but why didn’t James Cameron get the nomination I don’t understand." A fan tweeted, ""Where are the women?" The Oscars don't nominate direction styles such as Aftersun over films such as The Fabelmans, because of how they think of workloads, gender being irrelevant. The other highest-praised films, outside of that, were directed by men. There are only 5 spots." Lastly, a fan commented, "so James Cameron apparently didnt direct Avatar 2 LOL. what an embarrassing list for the academy," while another added, "No Nomination for James Cameron!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Least to say, fans are displeased. However, may the best man win. The 95th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC.
