In one of the better-kept secrets in the history of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), multiple-Emmy award-winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus made a surprising entrance in the Disney+ show ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’. The actress made her MCU debut in the fifth episode of the highly popular show and portrayed the character of Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

In the episode, Dreyfus’ character tells John Walker aka Captain America (Wyatt Russell), that he did not do anything wrong in killing one of the Flag-Smashers. She also explains to him how he did the right thing by taking the “super-soldier serum” and why not having the shield is not that big a problem for him.

Real identity of La Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine

La Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine is a fictional espionage agent appearing in comic books published by Marvel. She later went on to join S.H.I.E.L.D. She first encountered its executive director, Nick Fury, aboard S.H.I.E.L.D.'s airborne headquarters, the Helicarrier, toward the end of her training, impressing Fury by tossing him head-over-heels with a judo throw after his uttering an untoward remark about female agents.

According to Marvel, she is a superb hand-to-hand combatant, brilliant marksman, espionage officer and excellent combat leader and strategist. She has familiarity with a variety of exotic weaponry used by S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra and Leviathan.

Despite her perceived dedication to S.H.I.E.L.D. and later Hydra, Valentina is a triple agent, loyal to one organization: Leviathan. She ultimately helps Leviathan’s leader Vasili Dassaiev, aka Magadan, recover the ability to create superhumans. At one point Contessa was the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Femme Force, an elite cadre of female agents. She also secretly joined Hydra, taking the identity of Madame Hydra.
