Alex Garland’s A24 video game movie ‘Elden Ring’ reveals full cast, sets 2028 release date
A24's biggest and most ambitious film production to date is slowly but surely taking shape. The cutting-edge film production house is all set to adapt 'Elden Ring', the popular video game from Bandai Namco Entertainment. An ensemble cast for the upcoming movie has been assembled, and production has officially begun as of this writing. The expected theatrical release date for the 'Elden Ring' live-action adaptation has been set for March 3, 2028.
The cast of the upcoming movie includes Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Ruby Cruz, John Hodgkinson, Peter Serafinowicz, Emma Laird, and Jefferson Hall. Apart from these names, it was previously confirmed that Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman, and Cailee Spaeny will also appear in the feature film. The character details are yet to be officially announced. Burke's previous credits include 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga'. Mizuno, on the other hand, previously appeared in the film 'Ex Machina' and has also contributed to 'The House of the Dragon' on HBO. Hogdkinson was praised for his performance in 'Napoleon', directed by Ridley Scott.
The 'Elden Ring' adaptation is being helmed by Alex Garland of 'Civil War' fame, who is both writing and directing the movie. The production, which is currently underway in the UK, happens to be A24's most ambitious outing yet. Garland's own 'Civil War' had previously held the same title for a brief period, before being supplanted by the Timothee Chalamet starrer 'Marty Supreme'. According to sources, the approximate estimated budget of the 'Elden Ring' live-action adaptation is over $100 million and will also consist of around one hundred days of principal photography. The genesis of the video game can be traced back to a mythological story written by 'Game of Thrones' author George R. R. Martin, which was subsequently developed by Hidetaka Miyazaki of FromSoftware. In terms of the gameplay, the video game falls under the genre of fantasy-based role-playing games, which allow players to explore a vivid world replete with castles, dungeons, beasts, dragons, and other supernatural entities. The plot of the game is set against the backdrop of a fictional, mythical landscape referred to as the Lands Between.
Much of the power in the Lands Between centers around the existence of the titular Elden Ring. When the powerful and solemn artifact is damaged, the Lands Between is plunged into chaos as war ravages the land. The mission of the player, then, is to restore the Elden Ring to its former glory. The video game has been exceptionally popular, and ever since its release in 2022, it has sold over thirty million copies worldwide. It has also received over 400 Game of the Year awards, as per Bandai Namco.
