'Dynasty' Season 3 Episode 3: Melissa and Sammy Jo clash over hotel's homophobic architect and its heritage status

Melissa Daniels is back on 'Dynasty' and she is just as snappy and cunning as ever as she tries to honor the hotel's homophobic architect against Sam's wishes
PUBLISHED OCT 26, 2019

At the end of the last season of 'Dynasty', Sammy Jo had bought a hotel with the money from his divorce with Steven Carrington. Long-time Carrington majordomo Joseph Anders had quit his job and gone to help Sam at the beginning of this season.

In last week's episode, Sam and Anders broke the ground for the renovation of the hotel, only to find a hidden room that revealed the hotel's original architect.

While Sam was initially on board to convert his hotel into a heritage site and celebrate its history, he later found out that the architect was a homophobe who funded "gay conversion therapies". So Sam tried to stop this, but it was too late. The Atlanta Historical Alliance (AHA) has decided to mark it a heritage site and though Sam once again tries to stop it in this week's episode, he is up against a formidable foe: Melissa Daniels. She had once fooled Stephen into thinking that he was her baby's father and is now determined to win the AHA election.

Melissa wants to get this done and throws a press conference inviting all the important people in the town but Sam is dead set against it. When Melissa revokes the building permits after Sam removes the plaque commemorating the architect, Sam is forced to make a decision. He is also quickly running out of funds and, after an insightful conversation with Anders, he decides to compromise with Melissa—she can put up the plaque if the AHA lists his hotel as the best place to visit in Atlanta—so that they both get what they want.

While it was entertaining to see Melissa and Sammy Jo go up against each other, Sam's decision is sure to come back to bite him. Surely, he is going to have to deal with protestors and other naysayers and many might not see why he had to compromise on his ideals in order to save his business.

'Dynasty' airs on The CW on Friday nights.
