'Dune' is officially getting a sequel. Legendary Entertainment announced the big news in a tweet on Tuesday, October 26. The film is expected to have an all-exclusive theatrical run, after 'Dune' debuted simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.

'Dune: Part Two' is the sequel to 'Dune'. The 2021 sci-fi blockbuster has been a brilliant hit, and the second movie will pick up right from where the first one left off. The movies are adaptations of Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel with the same name. We can expect to see Paul Atreides explore his journey, whilst picking up the pieces of his life to fill in the void, following the slaughter of his father on Arrakis.

'Dune: Part 2 will release on October 20, 2023. It is expected to be released in theaters.

What is 'Dune Part 2' all about?

'Dune: Part 2' will portray Paul Atreides's (played by Timothee Chamelet) act of revenge against the noble families who murdered his father, Duke Leto Atreides, and restore himself to fame and power.

Timothee Chalamet plays the role of Paul Atreides, son of Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica, thereby making him the sole heir of House Atreides, an aristocratic family that rules planet Caladan.

Chalamet is popular for his roles in 'Interstellar', 'Call Me By Your Name', and 'Beautiful Boy', among many others. He has been the recipient of Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, a Lucille Lortel Award, a Drama League Award nomination, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a BAFTA Film Award.

Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica

Rebecca Ferguson is best known for her roles in 'The White Queen' and 'Doctor Sleep'. We will see her play the role of Paul's mother, Lady Jessica, in 'Dune: Part 2' as well.

The actress made her breakthrough in the industry with the role of Anna Gripenhielm in the soap-opera 'Nya tider' (1999), at the age of 16. She played the role of Queen Elizabeth Woodville in 'The White Queen', in 2013, for which she got a Golden Globe nomination. Ferguson also taught Argentinian Tango at a Swedish dance company for a couple of years. 

Other cast details 

The rest of the cast includes most of the core cast members from the previous film including Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgard and Zendaya, who will have a much larger role as Chani this time. We can also expect to see new additions to the cast soon, as several new characters will be introduced in this sequel.
