UPLAND, CALIFORNIA: Following considerable anticipation, TLC's iconic show 'Dr Pimple Popper' has finally returned in 2023. After a successful (in terms of patients) Season 9 premiere, Dr Sandra Lee will be seeing a patient in Episode 2 whom she feels has been misdiagnosed.

TLC's famous 'Dr Pimple Popper' returned for a ninth season on Wednesday night at 8 pm ET. The first episode of the new season began with Kenny, who had over 400 tumors throughout his body. Kenny completely altered after having therapy from Dr Lee. Viewers also met Kim and her son, Jordan, when they traveled to Nashville, Tennessee. At the end of the episode, Jordan thanked Dr Lee for removing the wart-like blemishes on his face and admitted to having a "crush" on her. Angelica went to Dr Pimple Popper's clinic to have a "giant bump" on her lip examined. Angelica's lip lump was removed by Dr Lee. Mikalia will now visit Dr Lee in Episode 2 to put an end to her torment.

'Dr Pimple Popper' Season 9: Dr Lee meets Kenny with over 400 lumps on his body from rare disease

Who is Mikalia?

Mikalia displays a growth on the side of her head to the cameras. Her growth has a mushy, spongy sensation, according to her. It is quite itchy. She is also embarrassed by the scent, which she describes as "kind of like (an) infected, crusty smell to it." It's 'gross,' she says.

Mikalia says the bulge was the size of a grape when she was born and is now around two inches on the side of her head. She was 23 when she went to visit a doctor for the first time. The doctor diagnosed her with a nevus, a common pigmented skin lesion that develops during maturity and is also known as a mole. She then decided to get it snipped off. A biopsy was performed on it. Seborrheic Keratosis was diagnosed, and it grew back within three months to the size it was when she first visited Dr Lee.

She confesses that things have become much worse. "It's always bleeding.... it kinda got things oozing from it."

What happened to Mikalia on 'Dr Pimple Popper'?

Mikalia's head bump is examined closely by Dr Lee. She noticed how moist the bump could become, giving off a macerated feel. Mikalia informs Dr Lee that the pustules might become bloody at times. Dr Lee speculates that this is feasible since it is rubbed on things. Dr Lee asks her whether she can lift the lumps off one of the edges. Mikalia confirms that she can, in fact, lift it up from a bunch of places.

Dr Lee wonders if Mikalia has ever attempted to remove the bumps. Mikalia explains how she had the entire thing removed, with the doctor shaving out the lumps. The operation took place about four to five years ago. She also mentions how prior to the lumps being removed, she wasn't experiencing such problems with blood and pus. She now refers to it as an "open wound."

Mikalia describes how her former doctor diagnosed her with Seborrheic Keratosis. Dr Lee informs her how prevalent that diagnosis is, explaining that they are kind of trapped on the top of the skin's surface. As a result, Dr Lee is still unsure if Mikalia obtained the correct diagnosis. Dr Lee believes Mikalia's bumps are nevus sebaceous or epidermal nevus, as she has had them from birth. Mikalia goes on to say that her previous doctor misdiagnosed her with nevus sebaceous or epidermal nevus until the biopsy results came back. Dr Lee believes that if the pathologist who examined the records had known she was born with the bumps, the diagnosis would have been different.

Dr Lee explains why this cannot happen. Seborrheic Keratosis is sometimes called a wisdom spot since it appears as people become 'wiser,' i.e. older. Mikalia, on the other hand, was born with lumps on her head. Dr Lee believes it is a nevus, which is prevalent on the scalp. They appear clinically identical, but "it's the history that is really important."

Where is Mikalia now?

Mikalia, Dr Lee's second patient in Episode 2 which aired on April 2, had been born with a growth on the side of her head. She got it removed after going to the doctor for the first time at the age of 23, but it came back and caused her much more trouble. The patient said that the growth has been leaking and oozing since it was removed. Mikalia described it as having a mushy, spongy texture that is irritating, and she was embarrassed by the "infected, crusty" odor.

Doctors informed the TLC patient she had Seborrheic Keratosis, a typical growth on the surface of her skin, but because she was born with it, Dr Lee assumed it was a Nevus Sebaceous.

By the end of the episode, viewers could tell Mikalia was fascinated by the alien plant that grew on her head gone, courtesy to Dr Lee. Mikalia had initially realized how foolish she had been in not disclosing her whole medical history to her old doctor. She made it a point to return to Dr Lee and discuss every detail of her condition. She didn't allow her fear to overcome her tranquility, and she came out on top. Saying farewell to a decades-old growth on her head.

Tune into TLC every Wednesday, at 9 pm ET to catch new episodes of 'Dr Pimple Popper' Season 9.
