The first episode of the two-part finale of 'Doctor Who', titled 'Ascension of the Cybermen' may have been a bit of a disappointment. After all, the eighth episode was easily one of the best in the series and introduced a properly terrifying lone Cyberman.

What the episode did do well was raise a lot of questions. Will the Cybermen win? Probably not, but the last episode ended in a cliffhanger with Yasmin Khan and Graham O'Brien in particular danger of being "deleted" by the Cyber-army.

There there was Brendan, a character whose life was shown throughout the episode but whose significance was never explained. Could he be a future Cyberman or could he be Ko Sharmus? More importantly, could he be the Timeless Child?

One thing is for sure. Everything Whovians have known is about to change. When 'Doctor Who' came back in 2005, Gallifrey was destroyed in the backstory. Then Steven Moffat brought it back. Chris Chibnall destroyed it again through the Master and hopefully, the season finale will give us the answers as to why this happened.

In the final episode, the Master will force the Doctor to see the truth about their home planet, the other Gallifeyans and finally confront the reality of the Timeless Child. Meanwhile, the Doctor's companions have the Cybermen to deal with as the last remaining humans are ruthlessly hunted down.

The synopsis for the epic and emotional series finale says, "Civilizations fall, others rise anew." But the most important part says this: "Lies are exposed, truths are revealed, battles are fought, and for the Doctor -- trapped and alone -- nothing will ever be the same again."

We may also see one or more of the Doctor's companions exiting.

'Doctor Who' airs on BBC America on Sunday nights at 8/7c. The Season 12 finale, 'The Timeless Children' will air on March 1.
