'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' official synopsis confirms return of an old friend-turned-enemy

The movies that are already part of Phase 4 have not really set up the concept of the multiverse, and this makes 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' important in setting up potential crossovers

Marvel Studios has dished out yet another update: 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'  listed the official synopsis that teases the return of the Time Stone.

The official synopsis reads: "After the events of 'Avengers: Endgame', Dr. Stephen Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. But an old friend-turned-enemy seeks to destroy every sorcerer on Earth, messing with Strange's plan and also causing him to unleash unspeakable evil."

At the moment, it is still unclear if the return of the old enemy is Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo.

Mardo was an old colleague who swore revenge on Strange if we remember correctly. There's also a  small chance it could be Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), but to be fair, they really weren't "close friends" as such.

The movies that are already part of Phase 4 have not really set up the concept of the multiverse, and this makes 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' an important movie in Phase 4 as it sets up potential crossovers and new introductions to the movies to come in the next phase.

On the production front, the MCU flick hit a major snag when it was revealed that Scott Derrickson was exiting the project due to "creative differences".

Previously, Marvel Studios said, "Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU."

Derrickson tweeted, "Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on 'Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness' due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP."

'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' was touted to be a horror film and there is strong speculation that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige could not see eye-to-eye on this with Derrickson.

'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' sees Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role as Dr. Strange. It will release in May 2021.
