'Jessi's Showterview' became a fan-favorite for the rapper's no-nonsense attitude and chaotic hosting which everyone found endearing

Sunmi truly has some big shoes to fill as the host of ‘Showterview’. ‘Jessi’s Showterview’ happened to be one of the most chaotic Korean variety shows out there. The American-Korean artist has stayed true to her New Jersey roots with her no-nonsense attitude and no-filter ramblings that fans and the K-pop industry absolutely love. Fandoms in fact used to protest on social media to get their favorite idols interviewed by Jessi on the show. We have all kinds of YouTube compilations of Jessi shocking male idols with her innuendos and getting female idols to twerk with her. 

From pointing to her boobs to act out watermelon with TXT in a game of charades to asking Ateez’s Yeosang what his tongue rolling trick is meant for, Jessi has several hilarious clips going viral. Despite her crass humor she also instils nuggets of wisdom from reprimanding SM for not giving Red Velvet’s Joy freedom and privacy to slamming Sunmi’s fans for commenting on her weight all while joking so that no one is offended. And while fans understood with a heavy heart that Jessi would be ending ‘Showterview’ after years of singlehandedly running it to rest and recuperate, no one was ready for a second season so soon.

Sunmi replaces Jessi on ‘Showterview’

On June 24, the production announced that while Jessi may have stepped back, the show had not ended or was not on hiatus as they had roped in a new MC. The new host would be none other than Sunmi who had been one of the guests in the early days of ‘Showterview’. While Sunmi is also fun, clumsy and chaotic in her own way, her soft-spokenness or for that matter most idols' shyness stands no match for Jessi. While the rapper included similar games and common questions as most variety and talk shows do, Jessi's hyper and loud personality made it different and fun to watch. And so while Sunmi’s fans are excited to see her take up a challenge, others feel like ‘Showterview’ will not be the same without Jessi.

'They will never be able to recreate Jessi's showterview'

Jessi’s fans are also upset as apparently, she did not even know she was being replaced by Sunmi and ended up unfollowing ‘Showterview’s Instagram page. One fan tweeted, “THISSSS!!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH U PEOPLE!!!! SHE DON'T DESERVE THIS!!! F**K U ALL.” Another shared, “Jessi made the show! 😭 I’m hurt.” One commented, “I thought they ended season 1 because Jessi wanted to take some rest and her health isn’t really at its best, and I’m obviously expecting her to be back when she gets healthier. I love Sunmi but it is not Showterview without Jessi.”

One added, “Jessi unfollowed JESSI SHOW official :(( also… let’s normalize calling it JESSI’s showterview.” Another angry fan said, “We all know showterview was a hit because of jessi and her way of hosting & then she gets treated just like that.” One posted, “They will never be able to recreate jessi's showterview. You can't outdo the doer.”
