In Season 2 Episode 5 ‘Forbidden Fruit a Flavor Has', we see Emily Dickinson (Hailee Steinfeld) attend one of Sue Gilbert's (Ella Hunt) salons - here is where Emily and Samuel Bowels (Finn Jones) are greeted as guests of honor. Although at the party, many guests refer to Sam as a player, known to sleep with women that he publishes in his paper. As for Lavinia Dickinson (Anna Baryshnikov) and Henry 'Ship' Shipley (Pico Alexander), they act out the 'The Scarlet Letter' and Austin Dickinson (Adrian Enscoe) supports the abolitionist movement in turn helping out Henry (Chinaza Uche) and Hattie (Ayo Edebiri). What is 'Split the Lark' about?
The synopsis of the episode reads, "Things don't go as planned when Emily tries to express her gratitude to Sam during a night at the opera." We hope to see how the relationship between the duo moves forward, especially since the salon rumors in the last episode. Sam is publishing Emily's work, and while she may want to say thank you, we have to wonder if things would go further between the two.
