'Dear M' is show that is a spin off of the very popular web drama 'Love Playlist'. According to a report in Soompi, a chief producer at KBS Variety Program center, Jo Hyun-ah was quoted as saying, "KBS currently has a golden lineup on the weekends with solid long-lasting programs and continuous development of new programs. In particular, high-quality entertainment programs and weekend dramas are an effective strategy in increasing the number of terrestrial (a form of broadcast as opposed to cable or streaming) viewers."

'Love Playlist' was originally streamed on Naver TV Cast vLive and the show's fourth season had premiered in 2019. The difference between the web drama and the spin-off lies in its casting.
