'Dark Matter' Explainer: Here's why Amanda Lucas doesn't recognize Jason Dessen in Reality 1

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Jason Dessen's (Joel Edgerton) multiverse adventures in Apple TV+'s 'Dark Matter' have proven to be quite intriguing for fans.
The sci-fi series made its debut on May 8, 2024, and six episodes have been released so far, while fans eagerly await the final three episodes.
So far, we have seen Jason and Amanda Lucas (Alice Braga) switching between realities to find Jason's original one. Meanwhile, in his reality, Jason 2 has subtly taken his place.
While the narrative showcased the major characters such as Leighton Vance (Dayo Okeniyi), Daniela Dessen (Jennifer Connelly), Ryan Holder (Jimmi Simpson), and Blair Caplan (Amanda Brugel) in both realities, fans were left to ponder Amanda's fate in Reality 1.
Interestingly, Amanda of Reality 1 finally makes an appearance in 'Dark Matter' Episode 6.
Why does Jason 2 meet Amanda Lucas in 'Dark Matter' Episode 6?
In Reality 1, Jason 2 meets Amanda, who works as a therapist. During his first therapy session, Jason 2 opened up about what he had been feeling lately.
He acknowledged that things aren't as he had imagined they would be. He subtly talked about his multiverse travel, though Amanda only interpreted it as a metaphor.
Jason 2 probably went to see her because he missed talking to her. In Reality 2, they were a couple. Not only did they work together at Velocity, but also lived together.
In Reality 1, when Jason felt distanced from Daniela Dessen, he likely wanted to meet someone who would listen to him.
Amanda Lucas doesn't know who is Jason Dessen in Reality 1 in Apple TV+'s 'Dark Matter'
Fans might be puzzled for a moment as Amanda doesn't recognize Jason 2 during the therapy session. This is because, in this reality, they had not met each other until this moment.
In Reality 2, Jason and Amanda met while working at Velocity. However, in this world, since Velocity doesn't exist, their paths never crossed. While Jason pursued his career as a Physics professor, Amanda became a therapist.
After the session, when Amanda asked Jason 2 how he heard about her, he said that he knew her from an ex-girlfriend. Here, by an ex-girlfriend, he meant Amanda 2 from Reality 2.
As Jason 2 has made the lives of everyone in both realities utterly complex, it would be interesting to see if and how things will ever get back to as they were.
How to stream 'Dark Matter'?
Six episodes of 'Dark Matter' are available to stream on Apple TV+. The series comprises a total of nine episodes.
The remaining three episodes will continue to drop as per the schedule.
Episode 7 will arrive on Apple TV+ on June 12, followed by Episode 8 on June 19 and the finale episode on Wednesday, June 26.
