Who is Darren Apolonio?
Darren Apolonio is a designer from New York. At age 27, he is set to be the youngest contestant on 'Project Runway'. Apolonio was born and raised in the Philippines, by a single mother along with his three sisters. In high school, he loved and obsessed over artists like David Bowie and Lady Gaga who served as his role models and inspiration with their fearless approach to fashion, which ultimately led him down the path to the world of design. Darren proceeded to get his BFA in Fashion at SCAD and prides himself on being able to capture feelings and translate them into a garment. After graduating, Darren shifted base to New York where he landed internships with several designers and stylists. In addition to that, he has created his eponymous line, which features his trademark - over-the-top designs for everyone, regardless of their gender expression.

The global Covid-19 pandemic which began in China led to many nstances of hatred towards Asian communities across the nation. As a proud Asian man, Darren found himself cautious as the past year saw multiple racist incidents connected to the pandemic. With time, he decided not to fear his identity and to further celebrate his Asian heritage - mixed with his zany personality and eclectic design aesthetic, to be part of a new generation of designers with a mission to be unapologetically who you are and reach for the stars without regrets or hesitation.
