'Dancing With the Stars': Monica Aldama scores her first 9, fans call it 'pity scores for last week's mistake'

For the uninitiated, 'Dancing With the Stars' had it's very own 'Miss Universe' moment. While announcing the results as to who stays and who remains in the bottom two, there was a massive goof-up. Tyra Banks had sent 'Cheer' star Monica Aldama and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy backstage after announcing that they were safe. With just three couples -- Chrishell Stause and Gleb Savchenko, Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe, and Vernon Davis and Peta Murgatroyd -- remaining on stage, Tyra realized that something wasn't right. She stopped announcing the results and brought up the fact that the information written on her cue card didn't match the information she was receiving on her in-ear. She kept on saying that these things are bound to happen during live shows and then went ahead to call Monica and Val back to the stage saying that they were the bottom two couples along with Heche and Motsepe, according to the information she had. The judges then went ahead to unanimously save Monica and keep her in the show for at least another week.

For the past three weeks, Monica and Val weren't receiving spectacular comments for their performances. This week, they took to the stage with a tango performance for the '80s night episode and the judges only had great things to say about it. There was just one small issue with her stance during the performance, which judge Bruno Tonioli pointed it out, but apart from that, they received all good comments. Monica even got her very first 9 in the competition. Both Derek Hough and Carrie Ann Inaba gave her a 9/10 and Tonioli gave them an 8/10. These scores helped them score above fan-favorite Justina Machado and fans were quick to call out the judges scores.

"Monica and Val got TWO NINES for that dance? They way they ignore their boring dances and completely over score them yeah it’s not sitting well with me #DWTS," wrote a fan. "Honestly.. I feel like Monica got over scored #DWTS," wrote another. "What are the judges smoking?! 9's for Monica's stiff a** legs. GTFOH!! #DWTS," read another tweet. "Monica’s boring to watch and there’s no way her dance was better than Justina’s," read another tweet. "They Felt Sorry For Monica So They Had To Give Her A 9 #DWTS," wrote another fan. "Those were pity 9s for Monica and Val for last weeks mistake #DWTS," read a tweet. "Monica got those 'mybad for last week' 9’s #DWTS," wrote another fan. "Listen her dance wasnt BAD but they absolutely gave monica scores that high to make up for last week #DWTS," wrote another fan.
