Brand and university slammed for erasing aespa's Giselle, fans say 'not this again'
After Giselle was erased by her own label in her own collab song, fans are tired of the disrespect that reputable partners are showing. Last week, fans slammed SM for making just the NCT members perform the collab song ‘Zoo’, replacing Giselle’s rap and not even crediting her while talking about the making of the song. And now, the aespa member has again been excluded by a brand sponsoring her and one of the biggest university festivals in South Korea.
Club Clio, one of the major Korean beauty brands that also happen to have a worldwide franchise, roped in aespa as their brand ambassadors in late 2021. For their latest campaign of their Japanese branch, they posted photos of three of the four aespa members with their new products. We had Winter, Karina and Ningning while Giselle the only Japanese member was actually missing. Giselle’s erasure by the makeup brand happened on May 23 when the commercials went public but they have yet to rectify their mistake. At the same time, while promoting their appearance, Korea University forgot Giselle.

Giselle erased from Club Clio ad and Korea University
With it being university festival season in South Korea, we have huge acts and popular singers performing like Hyuna, PSY, Winner, (G)I-DLE and more. We also got aespa at their first two university festivals where Winter went viral for her adorable look and high energy. Well at the Korea University Festival, while hyping up the girl group’s appearance, the university forgot to post pictures of Giselle. After much uproar from fans who were tired of the aespa member being constantly forgotten, the university apologized and uploaded her photograph.
This is not the first time that Giselle has been erased which frustrates fans as aespa is relatively a smaller group compared to the 10-13 member groups in K-pop. In 2021, the cameras cropped out Giselle at the Dream Concert and she was then blurred in paparazzi pictures at SBS Gayo Daejeon with the photographers mistaking her for the staff. Her segment had also been edited out from ‘Knowing Bros’ teasers, which led to fans calling out the xenophobia of South Korean media.
‘aespa is only 4’
One angry fan said, “I really hope In the future no companies will forget Giselle again, or even any aespa members. It’s not even that hard pls, 4 members.” Another fan posted, “What's not clicking? Where's Giselle? Aespa is only 4! we demand a fair treatment for Giselle as CLIO brand ambassador.” One tweeted, “It hurts so much to see how excited giselle is to perform, always smiling and enjoying during the performance, but she gets unfair behavior. no one deserves a mistreat, everyone deserves fair behavior, after all, what's so hard about only four members?”
Another added, “I will not comment any further. But my tweet stays here as a record. I will not forget this treatment y'all gave to her and pretending like it's fine when this has happened to her few times already. Wake up South Korea.” One fan commented, "Not this again... where's giselle?"
