Hulu is all set to launch a new sports drama, 'Clipped', on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, which is based on Ramona Shelburne's 'The Sterling Affairs.'

Created by Gina Welch, the series revolves around the historic phone call in which former San Diego / Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling made racial statements.

The show will focus on the uproar from the call recording leak and how it affected the basketball world.

The series delves into the events preceding and following the leak of a recording in which Donald Sterling (Ed O'Neill) makes racial slurs on a phone call with his girlfriend, V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman). This caused an uproar and public outcry, prompting the NBA to take action.

The show will also reveal how Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne), the team's head coach at the time, dealt with the scandal while leading his squad.

Laurence Fishburne, a well-known American actor, is expected to play Doc Rivers in the show. The 62-year-old actor, known for his portrayal of powerful, complicated characters, has won an Emmy Award for his versatile acting chops. 

The actor became well-known for his role as Morpheus in the 'The Matrix' trilogy and has had success on stage, receiving a Tony Award for his role in 'Two Trains Running' in 1992.

His other notable acting credits are in 'Mystic River', ' The Color Purple', ' School Daze', ' Last Flag Flying' and 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' among others.

Ed O'Neill

Ed O'Neill, who will play Donald Sterling in the show, is best known for playing Jay Pritchett in the classic comedy 'Modern Family'.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1946, O'Neill attended Ohio University on a football scholarship. After transferring to Youngstown State University, O'Neill acquired an interest in acting and joined the university's new theatre programme.

In 1979, he appeared as a boxer opposite Danny Aiello in the Broadway drama 'Knockout'.

Throughout his long career, his notable acting credits includes, 'Nobody's Baby', 'Spartan', 'The Spanish Prisoner' and 'Little Giants' among others.

Jacki Weaver

The sports drama will feature talented actress Jacki Weaver as Shelly Sterling.

Born in Sydney, Australia, in 1947 as Jacqueline Ruth Weaver, the actress rose to prominence in the 1971 after making her debut with 'Stork' for which she earned her first Australian Film Institute Award.

She rose to fame in Ozploitation films such as 'Stork'  and 'Alvin Purple', demonstrating her bravery and willingness to play unorthodox characters.

Her performances in 'Animal Kingdom' won her Academy Award nominations and firmly establishied her place on the international scene.

How to stream 'Clipped'?

The series will only be available for streaming on Hulu, which requires a subscription to watch. The ad-supported Hulu package costs just $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year.

On the other hand, the package with advertisements costs $17.99 per month.
