LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ is one of the highly anticipated releases of 2023 and fans cannot wait for another masterclass in filmmaking from the visionary director. So, it doesn’t come as a shock that viewers were absolutely thrilled when the makers decided to release the first official trailer for the upcoming movie. Yes, the first trailer of Nolan’s upcoming mind-boggling picture is finally here and has already become social media’s newest obsession.

The clip starts with what looks like an explosion after the testing of a bomb and Cillian Murphy’s character talking about the “horrifying” future. The video continues with shots of beautiful sceneries and Murphy’s J Robert Oppenheimer trying to build a machine that has never been made before. “They won’t fear it until they understand it. And they won’t understand it until they have used it,” says Murphy’s Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer seems to be talking about the “new bomb” he has made with the help of his supporters and what kind of sacrifices he has made to reach this point. The trailer also gives us glimpses of weapons testing to determine the effectiveness and explosive capability. However, Oppenheimer knows that they have created a monster here and is not sure if people or governments can be trusted with such a weapon.

The ending moments of the trailer show the film’s main character and his team set to test the world’s first nuclear weapon behind everyone’s back because the world can’t know that the US has created a weapon of mass destruction. “Is anyone ever going to tell the truth about what’s happening here,” says Oppenheimer while getting ready to conduct the test. The clip concludes with a close-up shot of someone’s hand shaking uncontrollably while trying to press the button for the explosion.

The trailer is just as complex as Nolan’s previous movies and even though we know what the story is about, the filmmaker has done a phenomenal job in keeping us hooked because we might know the result, but we don’t know anything about the journey. It is worth mentioning that the trailer shown ahead of ‘Avatar 2’ in theatres is much different than the trailer that was just released by Universal Pictures. Nevertheless, the trailer released online is as riveting as the one that was shown in theatres.

Fans went berserk as soon as the trailer dropped online and shared their excitement about the movie on social media. One of the fans said, “I’m so locked in.” Another fan wrote, “Christopher Nolan doesn’t need to make trailers for his movies anymore. Just give us the date and people are gonna show up.” Another social media user tweeted, “Chilling. A must-see movie, but also a film that will generate LOTS of discussions.”

“My most anticipated film of 2023. Christopher Nolan is my absolute favorite filmmaker of all time,” another user wrote. “Absolutely Mind blowing. Only Nolan sir can make a film like this...!” said another social media user.

‘Oppenheimer' sees Cillian Murphy playing the titular character J. Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt as Katherine Oppenheimer. On the other hand, actors such as Robert Downey Jr (Lewis Strauss), Matt Damon (Leslie Groves), Florence Pugh (Jean Tatlock), Rami Malek, Gary Oldman, Dane DeHaan, Kenneth Branagh, David Dastmalchain, Casey Affleck, and more will be seen in pivotal roles.

'Oppenheimer' is scheduled to hit theatres on July 21, 2023.
