'Christina on the Coast': Ant Anstead lends a hand for the modern craftsman renovation of Brit ex-pat's home
This week on 'Christina on the Coast', the HGTV host and her husband Ant Anstead teamed up to give British ex-pat Simon and his wife a home-renovation of their dreams. Christina was watching an interview of the couple at their house and an excited Ant, who also happens to be British, came along once he heard the couple's accent. In the spirit of fellowship with people from the same home country as him, Ant decided that he'd build something for this couple. Though 'Christina on the Coast' has been on the air for a couple of weeks now, the host's car-builder husband was seen in a more prominent role during Thursday's (August 20) episode.
Simon and his wife were looking to renovate their existing house. While the rest of their house was pretty much updated, their kitchen was still original and an area that needed a lot of work. The appliances in the kitchen needed upgrading, their pantry was very spacious but it was near the dining room, they also needed help with finding a new spot for their washer and dryer as the current placement feel right to them. The couple's budget for all the work needed was a decent $85K. This was also one of those renovations that come with a lot of challenges. Firstly, the couple had purchased all the appliances in advance, this meant Christina had to change her work style. She normally decides the layout and the other elements first and choosing appliances is a later step. However, she didn't have the luxury to follow her style of working and this was just one of her many challenges that cropped up during this project.
To catch a break from all the work, she along with her children and husband and her contractor Mark Rose's family took a fun and snowy trip to Park City in Utah. Coming back from the holiday, Christina and Mark continued work on the house while Ant decided it was finally time to make good on the promise to build something for the Brit couple. He dropped by the house and after speaking with Simon's wife and getting her approvals, he got to work to build an adjustable wooden chandelier for the dining room area.
After a couple of weeks of extensive renovations, it was time for the final reveal, and even though Christina is present for this in person, this time she chose not to, in order to honor social distancing. However, the results were as they always are. The couple was extremely happy with what her team had pulled off. The couple wanted a modern craftsman look for their home post renovations, and Christina's designs and her team's execution fulfilled to a T.
'Christina on the Coast' airs Thursdays at 9 pm only on HGTV.
