Choi Yena gets candid about IZ*ONE disbanding, K-pop fans say 'embrace reality now'
Lee Youngji’s ‘My Alcohol Diary’ is a new favorite show among K-pop fans as we get the rapper getting drunk with idols and interviewing them. We got some iconic moments from TXT’s Soobin crying over being chosen as the group leader to Seventeen’s Hoshi drunk dancing. And now, the show’s next guest has also gone viral over her wise thoughts of her disbanded group. Choi Yena had debuted in the immensely successful project group IZ*ONE before they disbanded and all of the members went their separate ways. Well, she was the next guest to appear on Lee Youngji’s show.
Choi Yena recently made a solo comeback with ‘Smartphone’ and to talk about it she appeared on Lee Youngji’s YouTube show ‘My Alcohol Diary’. Thanks to Youngji’s loud and extroverted personality, Yena fit right in as she got drunk and honest with the host. There were several hilarious moments from the soloist forgetting to wear her shoes because she was drunk to the Internet belatedly realising that she was not a minor but 24 and old enough to be on the show. Like the rest of us, Youngji was also itching to ask Yena about IZ*ONE and the idol complied.

Yena misses IZ*ONE
At one point, Lee Youngji shared that she was not sure she could bring up IZ*ONE, but Yena gave the green light. The host asked, “People miss IZ*ONE and I was wondering if you also miss IZ*ONE.” Yena moved everyone by responding, “I really miss it. I am a person who can’t handle loneliness. That’s why I am living with my brothers again.” But despite missing her former group, she also got realistic. She added, “But I am happy with myself now and I am not a person who can’t do anything because of thoughts. It’s best to do well according to what you are destined to do.” All of the 12 members are now soloists or part of new K-pop groups like IVE or Le Sserafim.
However, Yena also shared that they were grateful that IZ*ONE was formed, “Also, no one expected that a group called IZ*ONE will form. A lot of people ask me about IZ*ONE and I think there was nothing more worthy experience than it…it’s a very thankful experience. How can a thankful experience like this come to me? I’m thankful for all these moments. I just want to focus on what I want to do and what I need to do according to my current situation.” We previously had gotten a mini-reunion with five of the members including Yena at ISAC 2022 and fans couldn’t help but get nostalgic.
‘Yena has grown up’
One fan tweeted, “Yena on youngji's show and izone came up now i miss izone even more.” Another posted, “She says she finds it a really thankful experience since no expected that to happen~🥺😭Yena has grown up.” One commented, “Yena mentioned that IZ*ONE members said that smartphone is a perfect fit for her and it's so good.” Another fan added, “That's why i think as much as we love izone, we should really let them do their own thing now (i'm looking at you carrots) like yena said, izone was a group no one expected and the two years they had was extremely precious, but they should embrace reality now.”
