'Chicago Med' Season 6: Why is Episode 3 not airing? Here's when the drama will next return after its break

'Chicago Med' has generally been the weakest show among the 'Chicago' franchise and even then, it has been a strong show. However, with the new season, 'Chicago Med' has easily become the strongest on the roster. The addition of the pandemic seems to have taken the need for dramatic, soap opera plotlines away from the writers, improving the show immensely. When the 'Chicago' shows returned in November, we were immensely impressed, especially with the way the show handled the pandemic. Dr Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) have their plates full for this season.

However, just as we were getting used to seeing the return of our favorite doctors and nurses, we found out that the 'Chicago' shows are going on a winter break just after two episodes of the current seasons were aired. As it is, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the current season of 'Chicago Med' began about two months later than usual and because of that, the ongoing season will only be 15 episodes long. Of course, as filming has been halted numerous times due to positive Covid tests among crew members, it is unsure whether the current season could be even shorter.

Nevertheless, the new season has brought about a lot of changes. Dr Choi has been named the chief of the Emergency Department (ED), leading to Dr Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) feeling slighted over being passed up for the role. However, he later finds out that he was not even in contention due to his tendency to make impulsive decisions and his recent (but over) relationship with Dr Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) who had once again overdosed as the sixth season began. This could also mean that Will may be considering taking up Dr Sabeena Virani's (Tehmina Sunny) offer on presiding over a new clinical trial.

It had been revealed that Virani is quite interested in working with Will because she believes he is capable of such a high-risk trial. Whether this will redeem him in the eyes of the hospital's administrator, Sharon Goodwin (S Epatha Merkerson) remains to be seen. Moreover, what viewers might be looking forward to is whether Sabeena Virani would also become a romantic interest for Will. However, we think that perhaps Will should take a break for a while from pursuing any romantic relationships.

Speaking of Will's romantic relationships, it looks like his on-again-off-again relationship with Dr Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) is truly over now. The two characters have barely shared any scenes together of late and Natalie's interests seem to be moving on to Dr Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains), whom she is beginning to understand more after she learned that his infant daughter died of leukemia.

Though it came late, 'Chicago Med' is already going on its winter break and will not return until January. 'Chicago' Wednesdays will resume on January 6, 2021. The wait may seem long, but fans can always rewatch previous seasons to prepare for the new episodes. There are a few things to look forward to when 'Chicago Med' returns and the wait looks to be more worthwhile than it was last year.

'Chicago Med' will return with new episodes on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at 8/7c.
