'Charmed' Season 2: Harry and Macy are most certainly going to be the new Piper and Leo from OG 'Charmed'

As the first season ended, we were teased that Harry may or may not have unresolved feelings towards Macy
PUBLISHED OCT 3, 2019

The 'Charmed' reboot premiered on The CW in 2018 and has been treated (so far) as a remake, rather than an extension of the original 'Charmed.' We saw many storylines that mirrored what went down in OG 'Charmed' - the most obvious being Maggie's and Parker's relationship, which was similar to Phoebe and Cole's. Parker is a half-demon, like Cole on the original show. We also got a Whitelighter to the Charmed Ones in Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans), where the Halliwell sisters' Whitelighter was Leo Wyatt.

In the original show, Leo and the middle Halliwell sister, Piper, began their illicit relationship in the first season - illicit because witch-Whitelighter relationships were not allowed by the Elders. On the reboot, the first season did not feature anything similar, although when Macy Vera (Madeleine Mantock) took on the Source, she reveals to Harry that she can read minds, and it is suggested that what she read was something they needed to talk about, and left Harry red around the ears. Some fans disagreed, but as one user pointed out on Reddit, Harry "acted far too awkward (even for a dead Brit) and embarrassed for it to be anything else."

The question that now remains is, will we see something between Harry and Macy in the second season which is set to premiere next week? One thing we know for sure is that the whole "forbidden relationship" thing that Leo and Piper dealt with might not be there since the Elders were all killed in the first season of the reboot. There may be another higher authority that is introduced but we don't know that yet. Also, who is responsible for "making" Whitelighters if the Elders are gone?

Harry and Macy in the first season finale of the 'Charmed' reboot (The CW)

In the original series, Piper's and Leo's relationship spanned the whole series and Piper started falling for him before she even found out that he was a Whitelighter. They even ended up having three children, two of whom we even see the adult versions of. The Piper-Leo relationship is one of the dearest things about the original series for fans and those who also watch the reboot would be hoping that Macy's and Harry's relationship be as good, if not better.

It certainly looks to be headed that way. As a Whitelighter, though Harry is there for all the sisters and shares some good scenes with them, the scenes he shares with Macy tend to be quite emotional. And like Piper, Macy has taken on the role of the matriarch for the sisters. Also, let's not forget that Macy is most likely in her late twenties (for those who think it might be inappropriate) and is a working scientist, rather than a student like her sisters.

Then we have to consider whether Harry and Macy would even go for it. Harry felt his relationships with Fiona and Charity affected his ability to protect the Vera sisters and so he might not be willing to take that path again. Macy would, of course, still be reeling from Gavin's death and the effects of having taken on the Source, and this could mean their relationship could develop quite slowly. Then again, this might be a good thing. Hopefully, with the new showrunners on board (Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro) and they might fix the reboot's pacing problems.

'Charmed' returns for Season 2 to The CW on Friday, October 11th.
