"Raunchy, gritty, irreverent"- that's how Netflix describes its upcoming French drama 'Can You Hear Me' aka 'M'entends-tu?'. Circling the life and woes of three long term friends, the 2018 series is all set to premiere on Netflix with its striking debut season, the trailer for which is enough to make one consider their avid allegiance to female friend group-centric pioneers like 'Sex and the City'. Gone are the days of Manolo Blahnik and running around the lonesome streets of New York City on the quest for finding love. 'M'entends-tu?' is raw and real about its portrayal of the hardships these three friends navigate while having each other as 'pillars' to lean on. Here's all you need to know about the French show.

Release date

Having originally premiered on December 15, 2018, in France, 'Can You Hear Me' will debut on Netflix this coming Thursday, June 4.

Plot

According to its synopsis, the series follows the everyday lives of three best friends -- Ada, Fabiola, and Carolanne -- all struggling to brave the disadvantaged backgrounds they come from, while also trying to cope with their difficult reality. Netflix's official synopsis reads: "Three friends in a low-income neighborhood find humor and hope in their lives, as they grapple with bad boyfriends and their dysfunctional families."

Mélissa Bédard, Florence Longpré, and Ève Landry (Netflix)

Cast

Mélissa Bédard plays the role of Fabiola, a presumably single mother who is also quite the commitment-phobe. She is known for her works in 'Bye-Bye' (1968) and 'Par ici la sortie' (2012). Ève Landry plays Carolanne -- the socially awkward one who is mostly misunderstood. She is known for her roles in 'Unité 9' (2012), and 'Épidémie' (2020). Florence Longpré's Ada is the messy, seemingly dysfunctional one who does not have her life together at all but embarks on a journey towards growth through the duration of the dramedy. She is known for her work in 'Like-moi!' (2015) and 'Plan B' (2017).

Creators

Miryam Bouchard and Charles-Olivier Michaud directed 'Can You Hear Me' from a script written by Longpré, Pascale Renaud-Hébert and Nicolas Michon.
