Season 1 of ‘Bridgerton’ showed us how Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) didn’t have room for love in his life and he was not ready for marriage. However, Season 2 has made us realize that Anthony is ready for marriage and is waiting for this season’s diamond. But if you believe that he is trying to find love, then you are wrong. Even though he is startled by Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), this season’s diamond, love is not a parameter for the Viscount to settle down and we actually get to know why he lost faith in love.

Episode 3 of ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 opens with a flashback when young Anthony can be seen hunting with his dad Edmund Bridgerton. After a successful day at hunting, the father-son duo returns to Aubrey Hall and stops to take a look at their garden. While plucking some flowers, Edmund gets stung by a bee and as he turns to get inside the hall something disastrous takes place. The sting was so powerful and dangerous that he fell on the floor and he started becoming pale. Anthony screamed for help and his mother came out to help them. However, they could not do anything and unfortunately, his father died in his mother’s arms.

Anthony was numb after seeing this and didn’t know what to do. His mother told him to take the other children back into the castle so that they don’t see Edmund in this situation. His mother is hysterically crying after the passing of his husband and all the burden has come on the shoulders of young Anthony. The servants of the home are bombarding him with questions about how to do the funeral and who to tell about this.

A few days later we see Lady Violet Bridgerton reeling with pain and it seems she is about to deliver the baby. She is screaming with pain and is ready for the delivery.

However, the doctor tells Anthony that he can only save one of them. Violet says that the decision rests on me because Anthony is just a child, a child who has taken birth in this very room. She says that Edmund should have been here and not young Anthony. The young Viscount felt so dismal after seeing his mother in pain and told the doctor to do whatever she says. As a result, we see the doctor trying to save both of them and get successful in doing so. Baby Hyacinth is born.

After the fateful night, Anthony meets her mother in the dining hall and asks if she’s feeling alright. Violet is not herself after Edmund’s death and said that Edmund was the air she breathed and now that he is dead, it feels there is no air. Also, she felt miserable about Hyacinth not getting to know who her father was. Anthony felt really emotional after hearing all this and couldn’t muster the courage to say anything. The entire situation changed Anthony as a person.

At the end of the episode, Lady Violet and Anthony sit next to Edmund’s tombstone, discussing Anthony’s life. The mother said that he was an extraordinarily happy kid and always made people laugh, but his father’s death changed him. A wall went up inside him as if love had become some weakness instead of his greatest strength and she knows that this is not how the real Anthony feels. His mother felt that he wanted to be like his father. His father worked hard, but he loved deeply and she knows Anthony wants that too.

Anthony says that the reason he doesn’t want to be in love is that he doesn’t want to be the cause of such pain that’s hard to endure. That’s the reason love has no place in his marriage.

The episode ended with Kate and Anthony talking to each other when the same stings Kate as well. Anthony gets really scared and holds Kate tightly. Although Kate is fine, Anthony realizes how dangerous it can be for her because he lost his father like that. The duo came really close to each other and when it seemed they are about to kiss each other, some indistinct chatter seems to have come in between them.

‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 is currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
