'Briarpatch' Episode 10: Allegra goes up against the Senator but leaves her relationship with Jake hanging
Spoilers ahead for Episode 10 of 'Briarpatch'
Felicity Dill’s (Michele Weaver) mysterious death gave rise to many suspects. However, in a town ridden with corruption, the tragic death of a diligent police officer was overpowered by the selfishness of power-greedy individuals.
The finale episode of USA Networks 'Briarpatch' has several revelations to make, but at the cost of many lives. While a majority of the culprits are lost in the battle of power, Allegra Dill (Rosario Dawson) bids goodbye to Saint Disgrace, perhaps for the last time.
While AD Singe's secret recording of the conversation between Clyde Brattle (Alan Cumming) and the Senator serves as Allegra's ticket to Gene Colder (Brian Geraghty), aspiring mayor of Saint Bonifacio and Police Chief Eve Raytek (Kim Dickens) works her own plans to stay ahead of her counterparts in the game.
The finale sees several prominent characters fall dead within moments, as the result of individual plans framed by Allegra and Raytek.
While Raytek and Jake Spivey (Jay R Ferguson) are more concerned about saving their own positions by acquiring the recorded conversation between the Senator and Brattle, Allegra decides to stand defiant against Cyrus after finding answers to all the questions that haunted her since the time she first stepped into Saint Bonifacio.
Although everything that unfolds in Episode 10 of 'Briarpatch' sends chills right down your spine, it easily gives away the mystery factor it strived on since its inception. While it was satisfying to learn the truth about Felicity's death, watching Brattle die at the hands of Colder was a tad bit disappointing.
Meanwhile, the episode also ends on a rather uncertain note as it leaves Jake and Allegra's relationship hanging.
After teasing a potential romance between the two friends and putting their unconditional love for each other on display, it would have only been fair to see them get closure in the end, especially after all that they've been through for each other.
And, the senator, who was portrayed to be the ultimate villain in the previous episode, barely makes any impact in the last episode. Even Cyrus (Charles Parnell), who fought tooth and nail for his boss from the start, conveniently wipes off all evidence against Jake and lets Allegra get away despite being threatened with blackmail.
Overall, the finale episode of 'Briarpatch' provides answers to all the questions but lacked a defining moment as such, which we could remember the series for. It seems like the final episode satisfied its characters more than the viewers as it ends on the cliched note of good always triumphs over evil.
