Who is Easton Ivy?
Easton Ivy is a 9-year-old from Augusta, Georgia. Around the time Easton was 5, he got into a brutal accident. It was during Halloween when their foster dog, a pitbull, attacked Easton. The attack was unprompted, seeing that the dog had shown no signs of aggression prior to this incident.
“It was the most terrifying thing I've seen in my life because it was like a shark after blood,” Kellie Wilcox, Easton’s mother, said, in an article by WRDW. "Easton was outside playing ball like they had done every day, and all of a sudden I went out there and Easton was just on the ground,” she added. “It didn’t show any aggression, you know? It was actually a really sweet dog,” Kellie said. “We were just trying to give the dog a better life.” she explained.
Upon hearing her son's cry for help, Kellie ran outside and pulled the two apart. However, each time she did so, the dog jumped and attacked Easton again. She finally managed to hit the dog on the head and was able to run inside and make a call to 911.
“I thought he was going to die,” Kellie said. “There was so much blood.” Even though her son lost both his ears, Kellie was grateful that he was alive. "It's very hard,” she said. “I didn't want his life to go this way, but he handles it so well that it makes it a little bit easier. He is my hero without a doubt." she added.
Although Easton lost the shell of his ears, his hearing is still intact. However, his appearance has changed drastically because of the accident. Easton noted that he finds it hard to make friends because kids often don't know how to react when he tells them his story. He said that he is often met with silence, seeing that they feel bad when they find out the truth. On the other hand, some kids talk about him, which hurts his feelings. Kellie hopes that Allison can help Easton with a pair of prosthetic ears so that he can experience life as an average child again.
