Why is 'Black-ish' Season 7 Episode 9 not airing this week? ABC sitcom set to return with new time slot

Not much can be said about what to expect in terms of the winter premiere either as ABC is yet to even list the name of Episode 9, let alone spill further details with a synopsis

No matter how hard Dre Johnson tries to prove his tough nut Compton side, his life as a valley dad is something we adore all too much. And so does he too, as was proven by the end of the previous Episode 8 of 'Black-ish' Season 7 where we saw the family come together for a very Compton Christmas. The episode, however, ended with a special camo from Bow's universe in 'Mixed-ish', with her aunty Denise arriving to visit the Johnsons. What happens when that force of nature is faced with Bow's harshest critic, aka mother in law Ruby? 'Black-ish' will take its sweet little time to reveal the aftermath of Denise's visit as there is no new episode airing on the sitcom's designated air time tonight. Why? Read on to find out!

The fact that it's the designated Christmas celebration episode should have been hint enough, but in case you weren't aware, Episode 8 was the winter finale of the ongoing Season 7. The reason behind the lack of 'Black-ish' on our TV screens is of course the infamous Winter Break that all network shows take during the Holiday season to allow you to enjoy quality time with the family without feeling the pressure or being distracted by catching yet another unmissable episode of your favorite show. Plus we've spent this entire year being glued to our screens, a reason to not do that should be worth celebrating, right?

Following its winter break, however, 'Black-ish' will return on a totally different weekly schedule. Still very much an ABC comedy, the winter premiere, aka Episode 9 will air on Tuesday, January 26, at 9 pm, and thereon every Tuesday night at the same time on the network. The reason behind the shift in air day and time is probably because the spin-off series 'Mixed-ish' and 'Grown-ish' are expected to premiere in the winter slot so maybe the usual Wednesday night will get occupied with those other two sister shows of the series. But then again, its current preceding time-slot occupied by 'The Conners' will continue to be taken up by the show's third season after they resume from their winter break on January 13, so 'Black-ish' could be moving a day up in its schedule for no particular reason at all.

Not much can be said about what to expect in terms of the winter premiere either as ABC is yet to even list the name of Episode 9, let alone spill further details with a synopsis so as of now, all we have to bank on for speculations is the winter finale titled 'Compton Around the Christmas Tree'. According to the official synopsis given by ABC, the episode saw "Dre realize he's out of touch with his roots after Junior claims he's turned into a "valley dad," so he takes the family to his hometown of Compton; Bow tries to teach Jack and Diane about the spirit of giving by having them volunteer in Compton." But hey, at lest Zoey and DeVante are still alive and well. Oh, and Aunt Denise can't be expected to wreak some havoc!

The rest of the 'Black-ish' Season 7 episodes are supposed to air on Tuesdays at 9 pm only on ABC.
