'Black Lightning' Season 3 Episode 10 Review: While 'Crisis' altered the multiverse, Freeland remains the same

As far as 'Black Lightning' episodes go, 'The Book of Markovia: Chapter One' was one of the more enjoyable stories we've had this season

This article contains spoilers for 'Black Lightning' Season 3 Episode 10 'The Book of Markovia: Chapter One: Blessings and Curses Reborn'

Jefferson Pierce / Black Lightning (Cress Williams) is finally back in Freeland after returning from the multiversal crossover 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'. Even though the whole universe has changed, it looks like nothing has changed in Freeland.

Besides Jefferson, only his daughter Jennifer Pierce / Lightning (China Anne McClain) remembers that the universe died and she finally realizes that she has been wrong to trust Agent Odell (Bill Dukes) this whole time.

Now she is on a new mission to kill Odell and destroy the ASA as payback for using her as a weapon and it looks like her powers have evolved since the last time we saw her so she just might end up pulling it off.

Jefferson's other daughter Anissa Pierce / Blackbird (Nafessa Williams) seems to have really grown into her role as a leader of the resistance. However, she still feels that her father is taking the spotlight away from her and that causes friction between the two.

The episode also brought the story of Dr. Lynn Stewart (Christine Adams) and her Green Light addiction to a head with Jefferson finding out about her abusing the drug and trying to stage an intervention for her.

Adams delivers a powerful performance in the episode, projecting the image of a true addict while still being in character as Lynn.

As far as 'Black Lightning' episodes go, 'The Book of Markovia: Chapter One' was one of the more enjoyable stories we've had this season.

It's still quite surprising that the 'Crisis' didn't change much in Freeland. The only real change that's implied is that Lady Eve (Jill Scott) may still be alive in this version of reality and even that isn't actually confirmed.

Of course, the real question on our minds is, now that Jefferson has a team of Super Friends to call on in times of trouble, why hasn't he gotten them to end the ASA occupation yet? We guess we'll just have to wait and see.

'Black Lightning' Season 3 Episode 11 will air exclusively on The CW on January 27.
