Dwayne Johnson is all set to continue his journey as retired football player turned financial manager Spencer Strasmore in the fifth season of the HBO series ‘Ballers’.
Dwayne Johnson is a busy man nowadays considering all the big-budget movies that he is currently attached to including DC’s ‘Black Adam’ and the upcoming ‘Fast and Furious’ spin-off movie ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’. Johnson is also set to continue his journey as retired football player turned financial manager Spencer Strasmore in the fifth season of the HBO series ‘Ballers’.
Here’s everything you need to know about the hit show’s upcoming season:
Season 5 of ‘Ballers’ will make its premiere on August 25th, 2019
What happened in Season 4?
At the end of Season 4, Spencer had an emotional moment at his brother’s grave which led to him suing the NCAA. He publicly blamed the organization for his brother’s suicide and the PR fiasco caused by the lawsuit helped Quincy (Eli Goree), who is under Spencer’s guidance, become eligible to play for USC again. Meanwhile, Joe (Rob Corddry) managed to seal a deal with Nike for skateboarders he represents.
The fifth season will probably continue Spencer’s legal battle with the NCAA. A teaser released for the season seems to suggest that he will continue to rise to new heights in Season 5 with hints that he may feature in a documentary and continue to close ever-bigger deals. Spencer will also be trying to build up the troubled extreme sports agency SportsX that Anderson Financial acquired in the last season.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
The American actor has come a long way since his days as a WWE wrestler. He has made quite a name for himself on the silver screen, especially with his role as Luke Hobbs in the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise. Johnson plays the central role of former football player Spencer Strasmore on the show.
Other cast members of the show include John David Washington (‘BlacKkKlansman’), Omar Benson Miller (‘8 Mile’), Donovan W. Carter (‘Family Time’), Troy Garity (‘Shooter’), Eli Goree (‘The 100’), London Brown ('The Hustle'), Jazmyn Simon ('Acrimony'), Arielle Kebbel ('Gilmore Girls'), Brittany S. ‘Ballers’ was created by Stephen Levinson, an American film and television producer. He is an acclaimed producer, having won two Producer's Guild of America Awards, a BAFTA Award, two Peabody Awards, and a Golden Globe Award. Levinson is the owner of Leverage, a talent management and production company, through which he has executive produced a number of projects like ‘Entourage’, ‘In Treatment’, ‘How To Make It In America’, and ‘Boardwalk Empire’.
HBO released a teaser trailer for the fifth season on July 28, 2019, which gives us our first glimpse at all the fun coming to the show. “I didn’t choose football, football chose me,” says Spencer in the teaser. After his fight with the NCAA, it seems like he’s back to being his usual self, partying, traveling, and closing deals like a true baller. There are also some hints that he may be featured in a documentary on the show. As Spencer says in the teaser, “Just when you think you’ve defined yourself, there’s another chapter.”
