Will Korra and Asami's love flourish? Here's what 'Legend of Korra' fans want from Nickelodeon show

As a new animated theatrical title is set to release this year, fans stated their expectations ranging from an adult Aang series to a new firebender outfit

ViacomCBS on Wednesday, February 25, announced a new studio based entirely around the worlds of 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' and 'The Legend of Korra'. Avatar Studios will create “original content spanning animated series and movies,” according to a press release. The original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who are joining Nickelodeon as co-chief creative officers of the studio, are ready to start on their first project, an animated theatrical title set to begin production this year, revealed IGN.

Avatar Studios’ work will debut on Paramount+, Nickelodeon platforms, and unspecified third-party platforms, as well as in cinemas. Fans are taken with this grand news, agreeing that they have been waiting 'too damn long' for a new show around the world of the residents of the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. "Finally I’ve bee waiting so damn long for a new avatar show! Cant wait to see what Avatar Studios comes up with, waiting on the next show in the timeline about the earth bending avatar after korra".

'Want to see Korra and Asami get married'

Many are looking forward to the popular Korra-Asami Sato ship coming into life on screen. Asami is a bisexual character from the series. In the final moments of 'The Legend of Korra' Season 4, Episode 13 (titled 'The Last Stand'), Korra and Asami hold hands and head into the Spirit World after the show's biggest battle, confirming they had feelings for each other. The co-creators took to Tumblr to confirm that the pair were embarking upon a lesbian relationship, thus making Korra the first out LGBTQ+ character to lead a children's cartoon.

One tweet quipped, "IF Y’ALL DON’T BRING KORRA BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON AND LET HER DO SOME ON SCREEN LESBIANING YOU CAN KEEP IT! BUT IF YOU ARE CAN GIVE ME 80 MORE AVATARS". "I want a series where korra and asami just keep awkwardly running into all of the girls asami dated when korra was gone and trying to figure herself out and each time they look more and more like korra," said another. "We’ll see Korra and Asami again!! As a couple!! Animated!!' said a tweet. "On Tumblr today, someone asked if Korra and Asami were married and it seems like the perfect time to point out this small detail in the prologue! " another went on to say. "I deserve to ge to see korra and asami get married I deserve that," said a tweet. Another fan was more descriptive. "I want a series of where the episodes are shorts of korra and asamis adventures or just little looks of what their doing now, like idk maybe them fighting small villians or criminals together or Asami helping korra on avatar business," they said.

'A new firebender outfit'

The excitement around incoming added lore to the series was felt throughout Twitter, as fans fantasized about what awaits them in the upcoming theatrical release. "Avatar the Last Airbender ADDED LORE incoming through tv shows and movies! I would like to see an Adult Aang series as well as the Future of Korra." "WHAAA I am HERE for this, Korra is better than people give it credit for, and with them having learned from some mistakes on that show, with their own studio we could see some AWESOME stuff. Normally I'm not super hot on sequels, but Avatar's world is SO INTERESTING," said another. Some fans looked forward to a new firebender outfit. "I hope that new Korra content features a firebender outfit," said a fan.

"It's fascinating that putting avatar on netflix singlehandedly revived its popularity considering the series went kind of stagnant after korra ended. i think it'd be nice to have more stories in the avatar universe as long as they aren't like, reboots," said a tweet, while another said, "I really hope this resurgence will also make people love Korra more like maybe more things in the ATLA universe will make ppl realize korra is an addition to the universe not just a remake." "I foresee a lot of the same production problems that korra had though lol," noted another, referring to Korra's production hurdles from start to finish — for being too “risky”.
