Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell reunite after 3 years for a new horror-comedy and we're excited
Every time Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell come together, the collaboration is replete with their famous humour and wit. The star duo first met while working on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy show 'All That' and have been a popular comic pair ever since. Both Thompson and Mitchell were acting as hosts on the recently held Tuesday episode of Prime Video's 'Good Sports With Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson'. According to an Entertainment Weekly report, Hart was unable to attend the event due to illness, and Mitchell subsequently stepped in.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the upcoming Thompson-Mitchell horror-comedy is scheduled to begin production this summer. The film is titled 'Ken & Kel Meet Frankenstein'. It is produced by both Thompson and Mitchell, alongside John Ryan Jr., Carter Swan, and Brian Kavanaugh Jones, represented by Thompson's own company Artists for Artists. Furthermore, Range Media Partners is also on board as a co-producer, with Azim Spicer, Will Hariton, and Monica Weber serving as executive producers. Deadline reported that the movie is inspired by the 'Abbott and Costello' series.
Thompson announced the upcoming film while speaking about his partnership with Mitchell, "Kel and I have always loved finding new ways to work together, and this project felt like the perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and something completely unexpected. We’re excited to bring a fresh take on a classic monster story and have some fun doing it.” He continued, "Coming back together always feels natural, and this lets us tap into everything people love about our dynamic while trying something totally new. It’s funny, it’s scary, and it’s a great ride.”
In terms of the upcoming movie's plot, the official synopsis relates that Thompson and Mitchell will be seen as two delivery drivers ''whose routine drop-off takes a terrifying turn when they arrive at a creepy, out-of-place castle and accidentally awaken Frankenstein’s monster — turning an ordinary night into a fight for survival." Mitchell was up to his usual comically witty self, and just before making the announcement, he humorously claimed that the duo were supposed to star in the upcoming Season 2 of the popular show 'Heated Rivalry'. Thompson, on his part, was quick to dismiss the claim.
A Frankenstein-looking character, as a plug to the upcoming movie, suddenly appeared on stage during their item, and Thompson joked that the character had 'the bolts in the wrong place.' Thompson and Mitchell are most prominently known for their 'Kenan & Kel' and the cult movie 'Good Burger', which was released in theatres in 1997. The latter saw the duo working as teenagers at an old-school burger joint. They followed it up with the sequel movie 'Good Burger 2' in 2023. Both movies are available for streaming on Apple TV.
